Slow Play

I recently had the opportunity to hold the bag for my friend who is a local pro in the Mass Open and the marshals are very helpful. Usually in your sanctioned tourneys you have golfers that have been playing their whole lives and the field is usually your better players in the entire area....for one you are walking not using a cart and two these guys are shooting in the 60's and 70's so their is no time for slow play. As for your normal tourneys you will have your player who loves to play slow and you just have to press them a little. It is best done on the practice green before the round. As for scrambles you have a motley crew of players and you know you will be waiting before you even pay for the round. Just know what situation you are putting yourself in and play well.......

I recently played the USGA Mid Am qualifier at Franklin Hills Country club and it was run by the GAM. We finished our round right at 4 hours and 30 minutes. We had one tough stretch where we got a little slow but for the most part stayed in position.

 

They had a ton of marshalls out there to keep you moving and helping you find balls on a couple of blind tee shots.

 

That certainly will always help pace of play as well.

See, it can be done! Franklin Hills is no easy track, either. My brother used to be an assistant there many years ago, and I got to play it 2 or 3 years ago.

 

The GAM is always on top of it. They're also there for rules questions too. Oh, the GAM also have a no cell phone policy. If it RINGS or VIBRATES you will be penalized. I just leave it in the car.

Hey Larry something we agree on I hate cell phones on the golf course with a passion.

 

I hope your wrong about slow play ruining the game, I really do.

 

Personally I do not advocate or like slow play, but I hate the runners, The guys in front of them tee off on the first hole and they start complaining how slow its going to be.
