hi.
i was wondering if any of you could help me out. im about 5"6/5"7, 120 pounds, and my problem is distance. i have a good short game and am fairly accurate, but i just really struggle with 350+ yard par 4s. my swingspeed is only about 85, which is really pathetic, and i get outdriven by pretty much everyone i play with.
now i was wondering if any of you could tell me some things i could do at home to gain some swingspeed, because i really think it would help so much if i was able to hit it 250 instead of 205.
any ideas?

You can work on things:

 

Technique

Strength

Flexibility

Equipment

 

As each of these aspects gets better your distance will improve. That being said i believe a lot is to do with natural ability and so dont expect to go from hitting 200yds to a 300yd bomber. As far as training goes, work on speed and explosive strength. Legs, hips, core, back and forearms are probably the most important muscles needed to hit the ball far. Remember to stretch as well after training, as flexibility is crucial to hitting the ball a long way.

 

Finally maybe post a swing vid and me and others can tell you where you are loosing power in your swing.

 

Equipment also plays a role. You can easily add a bit of distance to your drives if your driver fits you perfectly rather than having a club which does not match your swing.

I dont think you are that far off. probably loosing some in technique as most golfers do. if you get in the mid 90's then you will have now problems reaching 400+ par 4's.

I've only done a few of the exercises, but through it, I've increased my SS from 104 to 112 (from Trackman sessions in May and July).

 

No I'm not affiliated with the book or anything, but just the general stretching and swinging a weighted club (towel tied on the end) has helped. I haven't even gotten into the weight exercises, but I'm really looking to increase my SS as well so will start to incorporate that as well.

another thing to add. 120lbs.. You really need to pick up a fork and work on a golfer gut. Get a little weight behind that ball. 145+

A great drill is to take your driver by the head end & swing the club to make the shaft whistle or whoosh.....if you hear the whoosh start behind the ball your losing a lot of speed through the ball... the whoosh should begin at the ball and carry into your follow through...HTH

Time will help you. You're 15 years old. In the next couple years you will get biger and stronger. Distance will come.

All the previous posts about technique are right on. Getting consistent hits close to the sweet spot will make life a lot easier. One other note to consider is speed and power training. Increased clubhead speed can be had by all with a lot of hard work. A couple of great training aids to increase clubhead speed are the speed chain and the overspeed device. A Golf Ball is probably the best change you can start with, try looking for a High Spin + Distance + Soft. the high spin will help you gain distance by carry and since you only have around a 80mph CHS and weighing 120lbs, ... you should look at the Soft feel to eliminate the shock from impact! Hope this helps!

I am also 15 and usually hit the ball 270-280 then I got these dvd's from performax about power and it seemed my technique was a little off and power was leaking out of my swing so I practiced what they showed went out tee'd off about five at our local nine hole course first hole 450 yard par 5 (very short course) hit my tee shot and the thing was smacked was left with 130 yards left measured the distance with my dads skycaddie it said the drive was 325 so technique always helps I have gained 10 mph just from right technique
