OK, I'm not a clubmaker, so I need as much feedback as possible!

OK, guys, I need your help...

I have a Cleveland HiBore XLS 9.5 degree driver, the club has a .350" hosel. I just got a Diamana Blueboard 63 g35t stiff flex...the shaft is a pull from another club, and measures 43" from tip to the end of the grip. About 2" at the tip end appears to have been inserted into the previous club (based on the discoloration, etc.). When I measure my driver from the top of the hosel (where the visible shaft ends) to the end of the grip, it measures 42.5". So, here are my questions (keep in mind that I'm not a club repair guy):

1) If this Diamana shaft is installed at 1.5" deep (according to the instructions on the website), that means that 41.5" of the shaft will remain from the top of the hosel to the end of the grip...so the club will play 1" shorter than it does now, right?

2) Would you recommend installing the shaft 1.5" into the hosel when it appears to have been installed 2" into the previous club (does that matter)?

3) Would you just play the driver at 1" shorter (44" total length vs. 45" total length); or would you install an "extension plug" in the butt of the shaft to regain the extra inch?

4) If I do install the "extension plug", how will that effect the performance of the shaft? If I don't, how much will SS be affected by a 1" shorter club?

Are you doing this yourself? My suggestion would be to install as is, just use a long ferrule to cover up the half inch of the tip. I wouldn't put an extension in it until you play it. Play it and see how it performs. You will lose a little swingspeed but you will gain controlability with the shorter shaft. But the shaft is the engine of the club and you are installing a premium shaft; the distance difference might not be a factor. Try it, if you like it, great; if not, then add the extension.

Thanks...so you're suggesting installing it 1.5" in, right?...So would the "long ferrule" you are suggesting simply be for cosmetic purposes? Would there be any problem with not using a longer ferrule?

What did the pulled shaft come out of? It sounds like it might have been a 3w...

Yes, you need to install the shaft all the way into the hosel. And yes, the long ferrule would just be for cosmetic purposes.

And thewitt has a good point. Do you know what it came out of? That length raw shaft I would say it was a driver, but with 2 inches of prepped tip, it could have been in a bore thru 3 wood. If it was in a 3 wood, it would have been tipped and is probably going to be stiffer than you expect.
