Which Aldila Shaft

Reshafting a R580 XD
These are the LM results from a Bridgestone Ball Fitting yesterday:

TP Red: SS 118.3, BS 151.4, LA 16.8, BS 4713, SideSpin +1637, Dist 231

e6+: SS 120.8, BS 155.6, LA 20.6, BS 4505, SideSpin +1430, Dist 237

Precept Dist iQ: SS 119.5, BS 154.1, LA 18.9, BS 2715, SideSpin +1120, Dist 255

I've been playing a R580 with stock stiff shaft, knowing it wasn't the right match, but not wanting to do the homework to find the right one. It's gotten to the point where I think I'm losing strokes out of the mismatch now, so it's time to move. I'll probably be purchasing an Aldila shaft through their closeout store on Ebay, and just need some helping with the right weight and tip for my driver head. I definitely need something with a low launch, low spin. I am totally naive when it comes to the process, so I appreciate the feedback. If I need to give any other information, please let me know.

Cheers,

Feddy

No help, eh? Let me be more specific then.

Would this shaft be a good option:

I'm trying to do this on the cheap, if possible, and this definitely fits the bill.

I just want to be sure it's not a completely bogus decision.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Those numbers were specific to an individual ball, and each was an average of 3-5 swings. Not a huge selection, but enough for a decent reading.

I've played a lot this summer, and am probably playing to about a 14 as of late. I'd been stuck at around 17-18 for several years, but had never taken the game very seriously until this summer, and have never hit more balls on course or off in one season.

Thanks for the tips thus far, I really appreciate it.

In that case, the Precept is the ball you want to use out of that bunch. By far the best backspin number. From a shaft standpoint, an NV would be a good choice if you want to stick with Aldilacloseouts. NV65 X would probably be the ticket, though you could swing an S if your tempo is smooth. It'd be an expensive option for you to try so if it didn't work, you could go a different direction.

I'm using a 9.5 degree, and definitely agree that I'm not getting anywhere near maximum potential out of my swing. I also know that is is mostly due to swing flaws, and that's something I'm working on. I just hope that a proper shaft match may tighten the gap a bit, and get me a bit more consistency.

To be honest, I probably average 280ish off of the tee, but miss plenty of fairways. Consistency is the currency of this game, so I'm taking all the steps I can to find some.

Not trying to be an azz, but if your ball speed is really in the 150s with an 118-120 ss and that much spin, you are probably not averaging 280 off the tee. If the ball fitting numbers are correct, I'm guessing you are cutting the ball from outside in, probably with a bit of a downward angle of attack and an open face at impact, adding effective loft and big spin. I'm thinking you probably hit a high fade to slice, with the occasional crushed pull?? If you're going to go with NV, I'd go either 75 or 85, depending how heavy you're comfortable with. The extra weight might help you drop the club a bit better and reduce any OTT move. I doubt you really need to go more than S flex if you already have a fade/slice ball flight. The stiffer tip of the NV might bring your launch and spin down a bit, but to get the ball speed and distance you should be getting with that swing speed you need to make better contact from inside out with a square face and positive angle of attack. My apologies if I'm off base, but if the ball fitting #s are right that almost has to be what's happening...

You're not being an azz at all, in fact, you paint a pretty accurate picture. If I were to track each drive over 5 rounds, 40% would high fade right, 15% would strong slice right (generelly when trying to overswing), 35% would find fairways, and the other 10% are dead straight pulls that go for miles.

I will say that I THINK the yardage average is pretty accurate, based on the yardage of my approach shots, versus overall hole length, though I've certainly never lasered it out. Fairway drives are generally closer to 300, and the mishits are a good 250ish, but I could be off there.

I know I have a swing flaw, one that I'm working on, and hope that some of that will be helped with a shaft upgrade. I know it doesn't help the swing, but it could definitely help the results.

I have a second monitor session scheduled next week, at a completely different facility, and am very interested in comparing results. I'm 6'7" and my long arms generate a lot of speed, but this could be off. Thanks for the input, it's very much appreicated.
