Private Club in RI?

Anyone a member at a private club in Rhode Island?

Hello,

I moved to RI in the last year and am looking to join a private club. Is anyone a member at a private club in RI? If so, where and what do you think of it? Any information will be appreciated.

My boss is a member at Valley CC in West Warwick. A lot of guys have gone there from other clubs because the course is good and the rates are very reasonable in comparison. They host a portion of the RI Amateur tournament. It's about 6600 with small greens. Greens are the fastest/toughest I've ever played. Still, I personally don't think I'd pony up for a membership. There are too many good public courses to feel stuck playing the same one. There will be a course opening soon in South County. It was bought by the owners of Richmond CC and Exeter CC. I'm assuming it will remain public or semi-private. I saw the plans for it 2yrs. ago and it will be over 7K off the tips and will be one of the best courses around.

Good luck and feel free to shoot me a PM when you get here and want to play. Like I said, plenty of great public courses at 6500-6900, 125/135 slopes.

There are a lot of very nice private clubs in the RI area.

It depends on where you live in RI, and what type on atmosphere

you're looking for.

Right now a number of them are actively campaigning for new membership.

There are few deals to be had right now.

RI has the greatest concentration of great courses of any state. Due in part to the fact that it was Donald Ross's summer home and a great climate for growing grass (you have probably noticed that the middle of the state is populated by turf farms).

My favorites are Misquamicut, Newport, Wannamoisett, Rhode Island, and Sakonnet. Most of the best courses are very difficult to get into. Exceptions would be Wannamoisett and Shelter Harbor.

Going rate is tough. Several places are very exclusive. CCRI might be an option - not sure where your price range and connections are. Places like Wannamoisett, Metacomet, Agawam, Point Judith, etc., are very special and I haven't heard of them throwing out big offers lately.

Edit: I'll add you might find some good things in Mass. or Connecticut depending on where you are in RI.

yes there are a bunch of great private clubs in ri [color=#1C2837][size=2]Misquamicut club in watch hill is awesome but i think you have to be a wh resident these days. down the road is weekapaug cc and then there is shelter harbor cc all three of those are within five miles and all three are great but very different.
