New Titleist ball

With the prov1 and prov1x on sale now and all the talk of the lawsuit with callaway, what ball will they release next... what will they call it?

If the new ProV1 and ProV1x cannot use the patent rights lost in the recent lawsuit, will the new balls be as good as the current Pro V1 and V1x?

 

Is new necessarily better?

Accoding to Titleist the balls were changed in September. So most of the balls currently available at retail are not effected by the patents. The conforming balls have specially marked boxes.

our rep said new name but they have not been informed of the difference....

Our rep said the replacement balls are ready to ship now. These will be the same Pro Vs we have had, but produced without using the processes that infringed on the patents. The replacement balls will be designated with red circles on the packaging.

 

The New Pro Vs start shipping in February and are totally different and in no way infringe on any of the patents.

 

You will not see any shortage of Pro V balls.

I think the OP was asking about the whole new ball coming out next year? Am I right? or were you referring to the patent lawsuit?

My insider sources in Acushnet told me that the new ball will not be Titleist reinventing the wheel or make some revolutionary new design. It will just be the same Pro V1 and Pro V1X people have become accustomed to, but with just ever-so-subtle tweaks just so that they won't be covered by those patents. So you can basically expect the same kind of balls.

 

Other than my sources being very reliable, it also makes sense. If Titleist were really coming up with a markedly new ball, then they would have been out on the tours as early as a couple of months ago for testing. But there really is none out there. So it will just be the same old ball with new badging and minor tweaks.

 

I wonder what they will name it though. My guess is that it will have the word Tour or Pro somewhere there still.
