SLOW, slower, and slowest

Is it just me or does this site take forever to load lately? I have been getting time outs, blank screens, and general slowness with everything site related. This seems to be a recent occurrence (last couple weeks maybe) and is only on this site.

I'm sorry, but this new advertising is intrusive and slow. Ya gotta pay for the site somehow, but ever since these new ads have been running, they seem to be dogging the performance. :russian_roulette:

We did extensive testing on the Ads and the latency added was minimal. The current issue looks related to the database and we are tracking it down. The Ads run 24/7 and it only happens at specific times. If its happening all the time on your browser, then it might be a local setting. We are working on the issue but, it is a specific issue happening at specific times.

Alright. But it was happening from home over the Holiday weekend and its happening now at work. I tried to view your reply and again it stalled when waiting for "addoubleclick" whatever...

It's something on THIS site. All other sites that I access load in half the time that it takes WRX. And that's on a very fast computer with tons of RAM and crazy bandwidth.

 

If I try it at home on a "real world" computer, it's ridiculously slow. I can microwave a bag of popcorn waiting for WRX to load at home.

I know there is a problem with site pages loading from time to time and its related to the Database. If its a constant issue you are experiencing then its a local setting, connection or machine issue. It also could be related to the time of day you are surfing the site and you are hitting the time the site experiences the slowness. PST afternoon times seem better than EST/PST mornings. Right now, the site should be fairly fast no matter which Ads are showing.

 

If I could get some details on browser, browser version and time of day its occurring then that would be helpful. Not helpful is saying all the time as I know its bad at specific parts of the day. Also, if you are using IE, is site checker doing anything?

I haven't had any real issues- site always loads just fine, both from home and work. I've been on all day (things are slow at work right now, knock wood!), and all of the holiday weekend with no issues.

 

Experience shows that anything with ad.doubleclick.net will be a problem eventually...

Does the site shut down at midnight on the west coast?

That is when a backup occurs and it takes the server offline for a few minutes. We are working on solutions for that.

 

Right now the site should be fairly quick and there are more users online than in the morning.

In reference to the ads, I have received blank pages each time the Sprint ad appears and decides to expand. If I refresh the page it loads fine. This has happened on my home PC and work PC. Doubtful it is a local setting for this issue.

Though it may seem like similar symptoms, we are talkng about different issues. The sprint issue can be solved but that is a different issue than slow page loads.

Though it may seem like similar symptoms, we are talkng about different issues. The sprint issue can be solved but that is a different issue than slow page loads.

 

Both running IE 7.0.5730.13 and Windows XP SP3. Running embedded IE pop-up blocker but GolfWRX is my trusted list. Not sure if the pop-up blocker has anything to do with it because the ad expands and the GolfWRX page comes up blank.

I know ads have to pay for the running of this site, but if the ads stall the whole web site, these ads could be costly for the running of this site in the longer run.........

Again, please understand that the problem is 90% database and backup related. The ads are running 100% of the time and performance of the site varies during the day and night. If you are experiencing longer load times like right now. Then its not the server or Ads.

 

I know what the performance issues are related too and we are addressing them. We did multiple software upgrades recently and the amount of user hard drive space used has gone up significantly. Each user here has storage space which is backed up. This backup data takes time to backup and the time it takes to backup degrades performance while it is occurring.

I've also noticed the same thing with the Sprint ad using IE 6.0.2900.2180 on WinXP SP2.
