Which shaft after the fitting session

Recommended Posts

I'm 14 index and currently gaming Titleist 775 CB with Nippon NS PRO 100 shaft stadndard length. After a fitting session these are my numbers:

6 iron 775 CB

Club speed: 86,7 mph

Launch angle: 14,4 deg

Spin rate: 6772 rpm

Max height: 23,73 yrd

Carry: 152 yrd

I'm 6,2" and need an extra 1/4" shaft's length. I would like to buy a set of Titleist AP2 and i want to know in your opinion which is the best shaft for me? I can't decide between DG High Launch and DG SL. :beruo:

Thanks in advance

I've done it but at a certain point it ask me the desired trajectory. I don't have a desired trajectory, i only would like to know, if my ball flight is too low, too spinny or too high based on the fitting #s. If my ball flight is too low then i'll go with the DG HL otherwise i'll go with DG SL to compensate the increasing of swingweith due to the lengthening of the shaft.

I can make a couple of comments based on your information.

86 mph = 152 yards with a 6 iron. There is something wrong with the numbers. I have your carry at 160.7 rolling to 164.2. My software says the spin is killing your ball flight.

  • 6500 @ 15* LA = 162.9 carry
  • 6000 @15* = 165.9
  • 5500 @15 = 169.2
  • 5000 @15 = 172.6
  • 5000 @ 20 = 175
  • I used 116 ball speed based on a 85 mph club head speed and a 1.37 optimal smash factor. A Trackman Smash Factor article just appeared on this forum (very informative).

So my call is that your flight is too low with too much spin.

My recommendation is that use caution with the AP2's. The club will add spin due to the amount of weight below the CG. And the shaft choices offered are for players that want to add more spin. I think you have plenty.

Finally, if your "standard" length set is a 38" 5 iron, then the 1/4" extra is a marginal factor at best. The difference in the swing weight and performance should be virtually, unnoticeable or at least not much of a difference to the outcome after striking the ball.

If use the TT calculator, put in medium flight.

I hope this helps.

Is this done with a perfect lie angle on the club?

Is this done on a driving range mat ot real grass?

What kind of ball? Your own or range ball?

Are you a digger or sweeper?

Are all the numbers are the average number includes bad and good shots or just good shots only?

What kind of Launch monitor?

Obviously, you didn't do it from a proper lenght club.

All those questions and factors will come in play in fitting the right ideal set up for YOU and YOU only according to your skill level and handicap for a certain type of course condition and weather patern in your area.

Iron fitting are not as easy as a lot of people think they are to be honest. You've got to look for a lot of factors and consideration to find your comfort balance. Fitting is not only if you play good or one good hit only, Finding those to get the right balance is really an ART IMO!

Fist of all thank you guys for the replys. I've attached the original pdf file of my fitting session with all the info detailed. I tried 2 irons:

1) my 775 CB standard length and lie

2) AP2 standard length and +2° upright

Is this done with a perfect lie angle on the club? 775 CB no, AP2 yes

Is this done on a driving range mat ot real grass? On a driving range mat

What kind of ball? Srixon range ball

Are you a digger or sweeper? I think i'm in the middle

Are all the numbers are the average number includes bad and good shots or just good shots only? No, they are average, but in the file attached you can find the details of every shot with each club

What kind of Launch monitor? See the attached file

If you find something wrong with the numbers consider the side spin and landing in the file caused by my continuos draw-hook especially with AP2s because of the upright lie that i'm not yet used to.

Sorry for the data in meters and thanks in advance.

I don't think it is fair to say what an optimal flight is for your irons. With a driver, the point is distance, so fine - optimize the flight. But with an iron, you want accuracy over distance. Can you stop it on the green? Is the dispersion right? etc... Some guys hit low flying darts with a ton of spin, some guys hit it high with less spin, or more spin. I don't want to avoid your question, but I think there are other parameters much more important than the results from a launch monitor for irons. Take some options outdoors, really know your swing, and try sticking greens.

looking at the graphs though, you're pulling it just a touch with some draw (RH golfer right?). Maybe 2* up is too much, have you tried 0* or 1*?

Oh, and listen to Joe...

Go back to your questions again all the way to the top, You are missing a lot of thing on this fitting session numbers IMO. What is the shaft flex, What is your knuckle to floor measurement with shoes,etc...

However, looking back again, everything are just totally useless hitting a club that don't fit you and try to use that numbers.

Plus, fitting through a range mat and range ball are the last thing you want. Spinrate is always much higher to limit their ball travel, that way they don't need a huge place. Hitting of the mat with a slight fat will feel good, but yet it won't give you a true numbers. Plus AP2 is a higher ball flight, if in case if you are a high ball hitter already.

To be honest, Get another fitting session with someone that will go thorugh A-Z. Don't get a cheap or free fitting, you don't get anything to be honest. Even better, get one from one that has a titleist fitting cart, this way you can pin point and try it on the spot. At last but not least, Try some other iron too! Don't get stuck with look only!

well i'm probally the least expierenced person here but I think it might be worth trying to hit a rifle project x 5.0 and 5.5. just because i've seen so many people with your swing speed love them. and i agree with joe, go back to that place and tell the people to fit you correctly, there's a lot more information that needs to be known before they can fit you correctly. theres also true temper tt lite's, those might fit your swing better as well.
