Callaway FT-5 with Ozik TP-7x, any thoughts?

got a Callaway FT-5 with Ozik TP-7x coming, sight unseen, and im wondering if anyone has played the combo, or the shaft and what they thought.

 

My swing speed is around 114mph, quick tempo.

 

usually hit it highish with a draw.

 

Also, what sorta coin should i have spent on this combo in very good condition.

callaway has them all over their used web site for about 170 bucks. it is a terrific club. my 10 deg has a slightly higher flight than i like for our windy conditions so i go a 9 deg which solved that problem. overall tho, its just a great club. if you bought it from their used dept you could have played it and sent it back for exchange for different if it didn't suit you. i often have them sent me sveral clubs to try at once and simply return the ones that don't suit me. that policy has really allowed me to get a handle on the type of shafts and combo's that work for me best. they are the best company in the known universe to deal with and their used equipment section is like buying 20 dollar bills for 10 dollars. just too good to be true.

I'd think that combo would be closer to 400 to 500 with that shaft upgrade.....

Ozik TP-7X is a high end very expensive shaft. Sells new for $1K.

You will love it, you are going to hit bombs. I have the FT-5 8.5, with speeder 757 X in mine and I love it.....

If the shaft is an X-flex and the loft is right you should be in heaven. The only knock on it might be that the spin won't be all that low - very respectable, though, and the feel and accuracy should be amazing.

 

Hard to say what a fair price would be, since the shaft really did list for $1,000 (It's been discontinued but even the remnants from Matrix cost a relative fortune. I just picked one up for my own use and even with my dealer discount had to swallow hard). If you paid anything like $400 you got a huge bargain.

TP6's/TP7's and TP7x's are not nearly as stout as people make them out to be. in my experience they are actually pretty smooth. They actually feel less harsh to me then Whiteboards or Proforce V2's. I dont find them incredibly long, low launching or low spinning either. Just a very smooth straight medium ball flight for me.

 

ive been playing the Ozik TP7x XX VJ Singh and like it, but i cant really see a TON of difference from the TP6 XX i was playing prior to that. The VJ TP7X is in FT9 Tour 10.5 LCG 2* open and the TP6XX is in a FT5 Tour 10.5 LCG 1* open.

 

Since the FT9 heads feel more like the FT3s with that dead muffled sound, feel is hard to differentiate between that and the TP6 in a nice loud harsh FT5. I DEFENITLY hit the TP7X lower, but i wouldnt necesarily say with less spin.
