Changing your own iron shafts?

Won wondering how hard it is to change your iron shafts? I have a set of pulls everyone of my builders is on holiday. Thinking of doing myself

 

Have a butane torch was just going to heat up the head by the hossel and pull the shaft then use a drill bit and get out the excess glue, the pulls are all ready sanded and prepped just stick some glue in and set the shaft any suggestions or tips? Thanks

Pretty much all that's necessary, but make sure and wipe down the tip and hosel ID with alcohol before gluing.

 

Of course, you are missing out on the whole shaft spining, head blueprinting, etc.

Yes it is easy. Golfsmiths web site has a section on reshafting under "club repair". I'd also suggest spining your shafts as long as they are out now.

Dude, I figured you would be done by now!!  lol  :)  You havent even started!  You can spine yourself, but the diff will be negligible on irons.

Dont forget your ferrules and whatnot.  Those golfsmith videos and instructions are easy to follow.    You can get exact with the swingweights, if you wish to do so, but you will need the aforementioned tip weights and swingweight scale.  With irons, that would be more important than spining Im sure.

 

Next time I check back, you better have atleast ONE pic of a finished iron!!!  lol

Same reason you wipe off the shaft tip, it helps clean off any residual crud so you can get the best bond from the epoxy. Just make sure it dries first, which only takes a minute.

AHH i have these nice pulls 355 taper but i found out the hossel size of my Idea Pro irons are 370.

I am also looking to reshaft my own irons and had a couple of follow up questions...

 

what is the recommended drill bit for cleaning excess epoxy from the hosel?

 

i assume you dont want to take out any of the hosel wall, just the epoxy?

 

is there another tool that can be used to get the epoxy out? my concern is that i will damage the club when trying to remove the epoxy...

 

adding tip weights to obtain a desired swingweight will not add so much weight as to alter the club's COG?

You have 2 choices here. First, you can get either copper shims or epoxy with beads in it--personally I'd suggest the copper shims if you go that way. The shims will make it so you can use the 355's in a 370 hosel. The other way is to buy 370 tip shafts.

 

If money isn't an issue I'd suggest a set of 370 shafts. Try looking in the sway shop at different golf web sites like 4gea, the sand trap or ebay to mention a few.
