Early Christmas! My "NEW" Titleist 681s

Just back from The Iron Factory

Unfortunately, I don't have the before pics, but you could look up any of the ebay sets that are have been used significantly for the past 6-7 years, and that's what these looked like. Definitely the most wear in the 6-W.

A couple of weeks ago I sent these to Jim at the Iron Factory. He'd never done work for me, but I've seen much of it here.

The Iron Factory

I couldn't be more pleased. After spending about 30-40 minutes with Jim on the phone going over the order and my specific requests, Jim went to work.

Total time was about 3.5 - 4 weeks.

These two sets have rotated as my gamers. One set had PX 7.0, and the other, DG X300. I'm pretty picky about my clubs and how they feel, and specifically the swing weights. I learned recently that how I weighted my irons was what is now being referred to as MOI matching, or progressive swingweighting. The irons begin as a D4 in the 3i, and go to D8 in the PW.

When I weighed the heads prior to sending in, my two 6irons were 8 grams different in weight!, Now, they are IDENTICAL (well, at least within half a gram)! I gave Jim a target headweight for each club, and he's within 1 gram for every head on both sets! I've never minded a little lead tape, so once they get all built, I'll dial in the exact weights with lead tape.

I also had Jim weld in the 681 on every head, and stamp my initials "T T" on to every head. Don't worry, I'm not going to try to pass these off as "681 Ts", they are mine, and will never be sold. I had him fill in the "Titleist" with black paintfill, but had him leave my initials, "Forged", and the sole numbers without paint. I may go back and fill these in on my own later, but I think I like it with only the Titleist filled in.

They are absolutely stunning. Dare I ask how much it cost you to get them refurbed?? The guy deserved a nice bottle of vin rouge for his work anyway!!

CRAP!  I hate you..  I should have kept my backup set of 681s and had them satined.  :(  Oh well...  Yours are sweet though.  681s blow doors on all the new Titleist stuff, especially when you pimp em like that.

Two sets refurb'ed, welding and stamping included, were just a bit less than a new set of (most major manufacturer's) players clubs.

All were mirror chrome before the refinish (original), except the 5-W of one of the sets, which I had had refinished by Golfworks previously, into a satin finish. I was trying to save funds before, and only did the the scoring irons of the set that really needed it. This time, I had them all done (finances weren't the problem) for consistency, and out of need (still mostly in the scoring irons though).

 

Additionally, this time, all the faces were re-grooved too.

VERY nice. They look new, rather BETTER THAN NEW as I'm much more inclined to have satin finish on my irons as opposed to the mirror chrome.

I've just gone back to 681s having bought a second set and built them up this week.

 

Fantastic irons and, as others have said, they're without doubt the best irons Titleist have produced.

I recently emailed the iron factory about maybe doing a satin chrome finish on a putter of mine and I was told they couldn't do it. He said, "I suggest winning two US Opens and three Masters before doing anything with that putter." I am not sure what that means. It is a Cameron Sante Fe if that would have anything to do with it. He also said that it would lose too much weight. I don't see how that would be possible being that chrome would be added to it. I saw a picture of a putter on the website and that is why I emailed. Anyone else have a putter done here? Thanks!
