since my teaching pro got me set the ball to the back (right foot) I always feel like I am hitting the ball with

wedge set up!

But after seeing what it does and face of club directly pointing at my target now I feel more assured everytime I hit the irons.

It is starting to work for me

i have been lucky enough to spend two days with jim mclean one on one. He also is a believer in striking down and trapping the ball between the turf and the club. he has moved my ball position back and left my swing plane alone. i too, feel like a four iron is now like hitting a wedge. but you know what? it works. i have watched the swings of pros with jim on computer and they do strike down and extend into the sweeping position. if your body keeps turning through impact you must take the club with you. increased distance on all my clubs. he has a great dvd series out now called "the building block approach" which is an extension of the 8 step swing. he devotes one dvd to each part of the swing. the set is only $97 and is a great investment especially for us lunatics buying japanese equipment in the USA.

in the bag;

driver honma 50th anniversary

3 wood fourteen

rescue fourteen 21 degree

irons fourteen tc 550 forged

shafts fujikura e706

wedges fourteen v4 or chikara(axiv shafts)

putter golds factory #1

ball: tourstage r1 o4

How far back you would be place the ball as taught by JM? Normal I would place the ball in the middle of my stance for my 5 ironswith the hand slightly forward. Lately I have been hitting all my shots, particular mid irons thin, producing cut or low flyers. Wouldn't a ball back position produces a big divot or fat shot?

4-8 iron are just left of center. 9-lw are dead center. so u are striking down at impact but continuing thru as body keeps turning. he uses the image of hitting two balls with each swing or clipping a tee out of the ground. both work great. he calls impact 'the moment of truth" but equally important is the extension of arms after impact. try the dvd set you will be amazed. the man is the professor of golf and spends lots of time with amateurs. ofcourse we pay thru the nose for his one on one knowledge and teaching. the dvd is the best substitute around. treat yourself. will be the best $`100 bucks you ever peed away!! he doese not teach one method and doesnt try to invent the wheel. he goes thru different swing types and shows you that there is a "corridor of success" where it is not necessary to be perfect. he claims there is no perfect golf swing but the pros all have one thing in common, the shaft is parallel to target line on take away and down swing. really amazing to watch.

no i am not getting paid! i just think he is the guru for the amateur and is willing to teach us. took my handicap from 18 to 10 in one season.

i was taught hands are not forward at address. hands should always be just behind the ball. pressing of the hands forward changes the triangle at address which causes a higher off plane take away. been there done it lol! when u set up just let arms hang and club is in position. watch the pros they do the same thing once they set no changes just fire. u should not change the triange once set up. he does speak about a move to trigger the take away either a slight press forward or a slight move of hips forward and then go into backswing. i use the small forward move and it works fine. :russian_roulette: lol u just got over $5k of lessons in a posting!!!!

I agree.

By the way, since I tried this new swing by my teacher (who is now no longer with my home course due to this bad economy),

I am actually hitting balls draw instead of fade first time in my life.

I get more run on balls I hit (which I think I am doing something wrong) but nice to see different ball flights than near slice or fade types
