2009 OnOff Hypereffect Zone + 46P Driver w/ pics

I wasn't too enthused when I first saw the 2009 lineup of OnOff clubs. The Forged + irons actually looked thicker then the 2008 models. The drivers also looked pretty similar so I didn't think there would be much difference in play. Plus, at the time I was killing my Prototype P-05 so there really was no need to get a new driver.

Since those catalog pics, I was able to see the lineup in person. The new '09 forged plus irons are nice...I still like the '08's better as they seem more narrow in the sole and have a better leading edge. The drivers...those were a different story. I noticed the sole changes and as always, loved the head shape. I didn't jump right on it though. I waited till a few guys bought them and listened to their reviews. After hearing enough..and getting the itch, I purchased one. I had a UST/Mamiya ATTAS shaft..not released yet installed. After one round, I'm really impressed. It's surprisingly longer then my last two OnOff's. I usually don't get excited hearing from guys that a driver is longer then another because if that was the case and all their reviews were true, they'd be hitting it 400+ yards with the 15 yard gains promised every time...and I wouldn't be outdriving them with my uber-normal driver. :D I'm pretty happy with a driver that just gets me in the middle of the fairway. The '09 seems to be doing two things..getting me in the middle and also getting me a few more yards then I used to have.

Like all OnOff drivers, it still has the hosel that's not so club maker friendly...especially if you don't have a club maker who has the hosel sleeves that proprietary to OnOff. There are two sleeves available. The plastic one I have installed in my driver and the steel version which allows the club maker to adjust the face angle. I usually stick with square face angles so I went with the plastic version.

and how the shaft plays?love the graphics...looks great

what grip do you use on this?is it an iomic with same color than the shaft?would be awesome looking

Sound is very solid..similar to a Titleist. Much more muted then my old OnOff Proto head. I'm afraid with the shaft being still unreleased, I don't have any exact spec's yet on it. Seems to have a mid/high kick. Very stable. Feels like it has much less torque then the UST Mamiya with Axiv Core Red which I actually had installed for a day before I put the ATTAS in it. The heads much more stable and the shaft feels much more tight.

As for the grip...I don't use Iomics. I've got a black No1 grip on it. Same ones Tadd Fujikawa uses..except he uses the neon greens. Like the Iomics..they have all the ion stuff in it...no, I don't notice anything using them. I just like the feel better. Price-wise..similar at around $18 a piece.

Hey, Pitbull;

Who did the reshafting work? If I buy one of these drivers and decide to reshaft, who should I send it to?

Very difficult to reshaft. The hosel/ferrule is aluminum. These were done by Carlton Masui, of Chikara fame. He was trained by OnOff and had access to the replacement material. Not sure who else would be familiar with the reshafting of OnOff drivers.

Had being the key word. Doubt if he has any of that any more.

I think I've said it a few times when it came to any OnOff driver..if you don't have access to a club maker who can fix them, don't buy them.

All their drivers came with stupid sleeves that were only privy to clubmakers who were connected with OnOff. Since I don't know anyone anymore that has this access, I no longer use any OnOff driver.

Is the issue with the hosel only for the drivers, or does this apply to the woods as well. I got a set of the CB247s and was thinking about looking at the woods and a driver, but if they have the same issue on the woods as the drivers I may steer clear.
