Hickory Ridge GC in Carbondale IL

Anyone have any reviews?

Title pretty much says it all. I took a detour by the course today and it looked like a nice layout that would require some pretty good ball striking and working the ball around the course. Obviously, everything is still dormant so I couldn't check out the conditions. Anyone have a review to give?

i go to school down at SIU and have played hickory ridge a few times. out of all the courses i have played there, hickory ridge would have to be my favorite

Thanks. Have you had a chance to play Kokopelli and Rend Lake? If so, how does match up to them? A buddy and I were thinking about taking a day off work to get 36 holes in down there once it gets a tad bit warmer. Originally, it was going to be Kokopelli and Rend Lake, but this course looked like an interesting third option.

never had a chance to play rend lake, but i have played kokopelli a few times. kokopelli is a great track, very very nice. it has nicer scenery than hickory ridge and it is better maintained, it looks more manicured. but i think hickory ridge is more fun to play, but thats just me. both are great tracks and you cant go wrong with them

We have a 20-man golf trip scheduled for the end of March down in that area. Playing Hickory Ridge, Stone Creek, and Kokopelli. Staying at the Stone Creek Cabins.

played kokopelli and hickory ridge a week ago. both courses had dead fairways, but then again it is only mid march. but the greens at hickory ridge where a little crappy. kokopelli on the other hand had great greens and the area around the greens was very nice also

i really like hickory ridge,depends on the greens though. sometimes they can be slow but if fast its a great course. i played in fall so im sure the greens are better in summer. when i played the greens werent full, some high low spots, it was weird. if the greens are good its a great course

We play Hickory Ridge 2-3 times a year and have for about 5 years. It is a solid golf course. It is 15 good holes of golf and three that seem to be forced into a tight area. Holes 1, 6-9 on the front wind thru some trees. Nothing too tight (except 7), but just good golf. 10 is a weird hole. It is a dogleg left that ends up turning about 90*, but the tee shot is just weird. If you hit the ball 175yds, you can hit it down the fairway. Anything longer and the hole is turning left and you have a lost ball both left and right. 11-14 are good holes, but 15 is a bit weird as well. A well hit tee shot will either go OB or be on such a severe downslope that it is hard to hit anything but a short iron for your second (its a par 5). The second shot will be forced to land on one of two tiers that both have OB left and no shot, right. 16 is a bit tight off the tee, but fair and 17 and 18 are just two good finishing holes.
