Driving Range Options for Downtown Dallas

I fairly recently moved from the northern suburbs down into downtown Dallas. When I lived up north I belonged to the Golf Academy at Castle Hills, which was great for practice. Now that I'm downtown, however, it's either $$ country clubs or crappy ranges with mats.

 

Any Dallas area folks have suggestions on grass practice facilities within a reasonable distance of downtown? What do people do down here?

Not many grass options near downtown.

 

TopGolf has a small grass area if you are a monthly member, and their short game area isn't actually all that bad. I'm not a fan of the balls at the topgolf, maybe they have better ones on the grass range?

 

Keeton or Cedar Crest might be the closest public grass ranges.

believe it or not, the best bang for your buck is Golden Bear [Carrollton]. Takes 20 - 25 mins to get there, but the facilities are considerably better than any of the nearby courses, i.e. Keeton, Cedar Crest.

When its all said and done, Keeton and Cedar Crest are 15-20 mins drive time anyway, so why not add another 5 for the quality.

There is a range and lighted par 3 course WEST of I-35 on Walnut Hill. The road down there is unlit and bad, but I promise there really is a range down there. $6 a bucket of 50, I believe. Also has a frequent user program where if you play the par 3 or hit a bucket, you get a stamp. 10 stamps is a free round.

Is that the one behind SpeedZone? I have been to that one one a long time ago. They had good range balls when I went.

Best public range close to downtown is Keeton park...they just did a renovation and the range, grass are always in good shape. Its never busy and you can get there from downtown in 15 mins max.

That is the one. Range balls are still decent, would like more grass in the target area, but I've only been going since December, so that likely contributes to it.

There is also the range at CitiPlace in the uptown area, off McKinney Ave, I think. A little pricey for my blood, but probably cheaper than wasting a couple gallons of gas driving all over the place.

I am north of Denton so my closest options are at North Lake Park in Denton, Lake Park and Hank Haney in Lewisville and Winstar up in Thackerville.
