Legacy - thelegacygc.com

Desert Willow - desertwillowlasvegas.com (executive course par 60, nice short game course)

Siena - sienagolfclub.com

Rhodes Ranch - rhodesranchgolf.com

Tuscany - tuscanygolfclub.com (far from the strip, and a little more, but a nice course)

Of course rates are cheaper for residents so if you know anybody in Vegas it can save you some $$$. For example, Legacy from June to October is $75 (weekend rate), but, if you know someone (like me, unemployed, looking for any excuse to play) with a membership, you can get on for $39.

Alot of the courses are willing and eager to get your business, though, so if you tell them you have a large group, 8-12 people, they might give you the resident rate. Definitely worth a shot.

Just got back from a LV bachelor party a couple of weeks ago and played Desert Pines twice. Pricey, but nice course. Staff was very friendly. Like jonjones said, it is tight! On a couple of holes, it's easy to duck hook into traffic. :secret: The driving range is kind of cool, but I didn't like how you couldn't hit off grass. I would definitely go back.

If you are a good player I recommend Badlands in Summerlin... Rhodes Ranch is a very nice course and doesn't play that hard... Stay away from Angel Park unless you are gonna play the Cloud Nine... Las Vegas

National is where Tiger had his first tour win if that matters... Ask the wife if you can have a early christmas present and play Bali Hai, Royal Links, or Reflection Bay... If you want to drive and play one of the best courses in the country head to Mesquite and play Wolf Creek... Play well.

I am a beginner and found Desert Pines to be pretty easy (shot my best round on it). Agree that it is tight, but there are no out of bounds and the whole course is really flat. Really nice place, beautiful mist-chilled autoload driving range. One thing I do remember is that (as of Sep 08) several of the tee yardages were WAY off, which at one point resulted in my wife buzzing a guy up ahead with her tee shot because the tee was 50 yards further forward than it said :-)

If you have more cash, Rio Secco (Butch Harmons course) is beautiful but very difficult. Also a good 25 miles outside LV.

Also played Vegas National, decent course good budget option, but not in the class of the others when it comes to grooming and variety IMO.

I've had fun rounds at both Boulder City muni's. Boulder Creek has a fairly challenging routing, 3 9's, and is a bit spendy, while the old course is a classic tight layout. I'd be curious how the locals compare that one to Vegas National.

If you have a car that's fun to drive, an hour to Pahrump offers Mountain Falls, best quality to value anywhere, in my book. $65 full rip right now, easy to score web discounts, and a great course.

Thanks for the recommendations everyone.

We want to keep it close to the strip and relatively cheap at the same time. After reading all of the reviews and recommendations that everyone posted and looking at many websites trying to find the best deals I found these 4 courses to be between $50-75 in June: LV National, Desert Pines, Bear's Best, or Badlands. We have a few single digit, a couple mid 80s, and a couple 100+ players. Please advise as to which course would be in the best shape? Best layout? Funnest course? And a course for all to enjoy?

Thanks for the input.

Bears wont fit that price range and its about 20-25 min from the strip

and to be honest its in a different league than those other courses that have been mentioned

For the proximity to the strip and price range you are looking at I would go with Black Mountain or LV National

I should have prefaced it by saying that we are planning on playing in the afternoon, yeah it will be hot but we are from so cal kind of used to it because we make multiple visits to Palm Springs/Desert area every summer to take advantage of their low rates.

Prices I found Bears Best $55 after 2 (trying to see if they will let us out closer to 1)

Badlands I was told by the shop it should be around $75 around noon

Desert Pines has a few tee times on their website for $59 after 12

Las Vegas National I was told by the shop should be around $50 in the afternoon

I need to check out our pricing I wasnt aware of a 55 rate, but if so it would be at the end of the day in the summer

badlands completely sucks, one of the worst designed courses ever IMO

I wouldn't agree with the statement Badlands sucks, it's a Troon design... But I do hear that a lot of my playing partners that had a nightmare round, me included (but I didn't mean it)... It can play very hard if your game is not up to speed with the layout.... Off the tee you must be straight, period... If you are hitting it crooked be prepared to billygoat it all day long... What they do need is a skycaddie or gps system in the cart... Distance control is a must.

Now Revere, Red Rock, and Rhodes Ranch have some beautiful golf holes... But I still stand by Wolf Creek as the must play... It is a golf course that you remember every shot and every hole on it, good or bad... Splurge and play it, you can thank me later.

Its not a Troon design its a Johnny Miller design that was operated by American golf until they sold it to Troon,

Good history lesson... Regardless it's a great course that will give instant feedback to where your game is at...

Here's the best of Vegas golf, there will be deals in June, maybe not Cascata:

http://forelinksters.com/course/location/2.../city/Las+Vegas

The trouble with that site is that it's not current (The Falls has been closed) and also it only lists about 10 courses in Vegas. It doesn't mention Angel Park-Palm, Primm Valley, Legacy, The Chase at Coyote Springs, Anthem Lexington, all of which are fine courses.

The rates definately will be favorable for any course here in Vegas as they are all hurting right now.

I had a great time at Bear's Best (mostly due to Jason's generosity). Here's a link with some pictures of that course and also of Wolf Creek from my trip last year. I would recommend that course to anyone.

We just played Mountain Falls, thanks for the recommendation as we had a great time! Not a bad drive and a fun course, better than the courses that overseed right now. Food was good also.

you can get on most anywhere for a decent price. I live in vegas and summer usually is pretty good with prices. Primm out on the cali nev border is a great place. legacy is ok, siena is alright. red rock is pretty cool. revere courses are really up and down and up and down. angel park isn't the best expierience. there are a lot of places. rio secco is good. you have tons of choices. I suggest primm, or red rock arroyo. But keep in mind, it might cost a lot, but it doesn't mean the grass is well or they keep it in good shape etc. Its vegas golf, and you can pay a bundle for some shabby place. Don't go to desert willow... it is cheap but it isn't good.
