Maumelle, Arkansas

I used to live here in Maumelle, Little Rock, and in Searcy, Arkansas. My grandfather has been living on the course for a while, and was one of the first members here. I got to play with him today, and with my uncle, who almost got a hole in one today, but it ringed around the hole on number eight.

Anyways, the course is great. It's always in very nice shape. The pin placements are often challenging along with the holes themselves. MCC's members (just about all of them) are pretty nice. It has a nice clubhouse and bar, a nice golf shop, and has a really big swimming pool. Overall, it is a GREAT course, very enjoyable.

Off topic, but I shot a 27 on 6 holes today, because it got pretty dark, and we couldn't really see anymore. My ball striking really sucked today, and I couldn't really hit a decent shot within 150 yards. My sand and my short game needs working on a bit, too. It scared me that my driving was a bit inconsistant today, which is often perfect every time, but whatever, that's golf. My putting saved me, though. I two-putted every single hole or sunk it first try.

But all in all, pretty nice stay here. I've played golf for the past 3 days so I'm pretty happy. I'll just chill out tomarrow and see that Star Trek movie. I might play some Left 4 Dead with my uncle, too.

If you ever travel to Little Rock and want to play some golf, Maumelle Country Club isn't but a 20 minute drive! :)

isn't that private? i've played CC Arkansas in Maumelle many times, but never MCC.

Man I miss Arkansas Used to live in North Little Rock. have any of you guys playen the golf course that is now shut down in Sherwood? That course looked so good. Oh yea, what kind of greens do you guys have at Maumelle CC? Are they fast and big tif eagle greens?

Maumelle CC, Pleasant Valley CC and Rebsamen Park all went Bermuda. If I'm not mistaken they're all Champion Bermuda. I've played Rebsamen 3 times in the last couple of weeks and the greens are fine but will probably be better after they get a chance to grow in during the spring. CC of Arkansas has Bermuda as well but I think it's tif-dwarf. Courses around here were just having a hard time keeping Bent when the weather got really hot, which it does here every summer as I'm sure you know. Bent just required so much maintenance and even with a lot of TLC sometimes it didn't make it and I guess they just got fed up trying. Stonelinks still has Bent and they manage to keep it real nice. That course in Sherwood is actually opening back up in the spring. I can't remember the name but I was over there recently and found that out.

I played Maumelle many years ago and seem to remember it was a pretty long track.

Yeah it's private.

Maumelle CC is right at 7500 yards from the tips. I haven't played there since earlier this year, but it was in excellent shape at the time. I was told that they switched to the hybrid bermuda because the upkeep and possibility of losing the bent grass due to the weather was too much hassle/stress. I love bent greens, but hate the fans that courses have around them to keep them cool in the summer.

MCC is private, but Alice 107.7 sometimes does a half off hook up with them where you can play for $25. I have not played it since the summer, but the greens were in great shape then..fun layout with a tough stretch of closing holes 14-18 all along the Arkansas river, also has great views of Pinnacle Mtn on the back nine. The only negative I can really think of is the short driving range.

WOW! If I get to go back up to Arkansas I will have to play that course in Sherwood. We pretty much have an overflood of tifeagle greens. Sometimes they get too bumpy, its all about whether they roll and cut them or not.

Add Chamberlyne to the list of courses that recently switched to Champion Bermuda.
