Used Slighter question

I am interested in Slighter putters, thinking of custom ordering this fall. In the meantime, I am thinking of buying a used Slighter. Just followed a Redmond on E-bay that sold for $213.50. I bid $200 and I got to thinking, what do Slighters sell for used, is this a typical price, or was it high because the stick was in seemingly excellant condition? Any info, or past experiences, much appreciated.

I know base price for his putters is around 300+ new... You starting adding customization and the price could easily climb to 500 dollars.

I think 213.00 was a low price and I think, depending on the condition of that putter, that person got one hell of a deal!

This confuses me. People say that Slighers are a better deal than Camerons, but I would think that the upside of a Slighter is customization. Is that correct?

Now what I don't get is, if they are the same Quality as a Cameron, and Cameron's can be found cheaper on eBay used, what is the upside of a Slighter that was not made for you?

Sorry, don't mean to start a flame war here, I am geniunely curious.

Thanks

It is personal preference really. Some people are willing to pay a little bit more for something they feel is built for them.

I really like scotty putters, But I like the options I have by sending a Scotty putter to Slighter for custom stuff and refinishing.

In fact.. I going to have Tom refinish and beach my Pro Platinum because there are more options to be had.

I agree with that, and considered sending my Newport Pro Platinum to him before deciding on Colbert. But what I am saying is that, why buy a non-customized for you Slighter, when you can buy a non-customized for you Cameron for the same price if not cheaper.

I think the real value and plus side of the Slighters is customization, which would be a lot of fun for me if I had the money.

A lot of people (including myself) compare a Slighter putter to a tour cameron. Therefore the 300+ that you spend on a Slighter is a lot less then 1200+ spent on a tour cameron. I've owned many retail camerons in my day and none of them compare to the slighter. I've never owned a tour cammy though, but from what I read they have a much better feel probably similar to a slighter. I decided to go the slighter route because it gave me the options of any customization that I wanted for the fraction of the cost of a tour cameron

Awesome, good post, that is the kind of answer I am looking for.

I love slighters. If I had the cash, I would have one. And my next putter I buy would almost certinly be a slighter.

But I have to agree with you on that. I think the main point of a slighter is the customization. But I wouldn't really want a slighter that has been made for someone else.

I would highly recommed Slighter putters to anyone. His customer service is second to none, and he will ALWAYS take time to help you. When I ordered my putter I kid you not we exchanged about 100 emails in 6 weeks, who else would do that? Sure the price tag is a little steep if you look at it from the fact that he's not a "WELL" known name, but I'm telling you that you will NOT find a better putter with the custom options he offers for less through any aftermarket place. At least give him a look and fill out the price quote and you can get an idea of the detail he puts into it. I promise you that if you do order you will be very happy with the end result. I do know that right now it's taking some time to get putters out though. He has had a boom in business in the last several months with several discussion boards raving about his work. I would expect to wait 10-12 weeks before you get it in your hands, but I promise you it's worth the wait!

I didn't get the information on used prices that I sought, but for all that posted thanks. I want to buy a used Slighter BEFORE I order customized because I have never even seen one, let alone tried one. The one I passed on was a heel shafted Belmond, which is what I want to get, without anyone's initials, etc. so there is a reason to try used before new, if only to be sure before spending big bucks. Thanks again.

Well, I don't know of many people who have bought a used Slighter because usually they are "customized" for the original owner. Whatever the case, whether they are used or new...the craftmanship and quality of any of Slighter's putters are unsurpassed.

Many Slighter owners feel that they are better than Cammys overall in value, craftmanship, and feel. Heck, I will go out on a limb and personally say that both my Slighter Tacoma's feel way better than a Tour Newport IMHO...as I putt better with them too.

Hey, if you can pick up a used Slighter for a reasonable price...go for it. You'll be happy you did!! Just make sure the length, weight, loft & lie meets your specs.

I personally can't see a whole lot of difference in either putter (I mean face it, both have an Anser knock off as a their leading seller). One says Cameron, one says Slighter. The only difference I can see is with Slighter, you have to give a little more demographics on your specs and Cameron just sells his putters as is. Both use sound slots (beaching). Both have refinishing capabilities, however one charges a lot more for it. One has a cult following (Cameron), one would if he'd wisen up and sign with a big company. One has a cute little fan club, the other would if he'd sign on with a big company. In summation you buy Slighter to get a one of a kind putter built your specs, you buy a Cameron for it's performance and aesthetics, as well as collecting all 120 headcovers that cost $175 on ebay...(we're talking about a headcover)...oh and Slighter headcovers are under $15.

This thread has been a lot of fun to read. No bashing or lopsided remarks. I felt like Cook, wanted to try a Slighter before spending the bigger money on a Custom. So, I found a couple on eBay and snatched them up. Got them both for less that I would have spent for a Cammie in similar shape. Wound up with a Tacoma, made for Blade golf prototype. It is an early model and rolls the ball great. The other is a Kirkland without any personalization, at all. Just what I was hoping for. It has been Beached and is a 350 gram head. The feel between the two is very different, due in part to the sound slot, I think.

I say track one down, if you can and figure to spend about half of what they cost new. If you get one for less, good deal.

Tom has been awesome to deal with and my Long Neck Tacoma is probably still 3-4 weeks out. I am jonesing for it, but have a few odds and ends around the house to keep my attention.

Good luck on your search,

LaMont in AZ

I bought a used Slighter Seattle putter last year for about $150 on Ebay. It turns out it was a prototype for Blade Golf, I sent it back to Tom to refinish it in 3X black because the stainless steel had a bright glare from time to time. Tom did a terrific job and I swear this is the best putter I've ever used and I've tried a lot. The Scotty Newport 2 original gun blue is also a great putter but I like the thinner profile of the Slighter.

Here's some photos. I've seen the custom made putters on his website and they are beautiful but I'll stay with this one, I don't like using putter headcovers since I just lose them so mine has a lot of dings, the 3X black finish hides it well though.
