Advice needed

Can someone please enlighten me as to why the 009 is so sort after and also give me a little more info on the actual design. I'm seriously considering forking out the cash for one....Plus can someone (if they know) tell me how some people are able to get custom putters from Scotty Cameron and if there is anyway I could?

The 009 is a classic interpritation made modern by SC of the original Ping Anser.

 

Originally these putters were only available to a very very very select few people. Some of the biggest SC collectors in the world could not get one for years.

 

About a year or so ago, SC allowed 3 of his major US resellers (Art of Putters, Table Rock Golf, Pong Man) to "order a 009". Starting at 1,900 you get a 009 in your choice of Length and weight. You get to select the finish(Pro Plat, 3x, Black Pearl, Black Bearl Mist, Oil Can etc) , and stamping you would like on the putter grip and a Circle T head Cover. The putter recieves the standard plumbers neck you see on the Newport 2. The putter can go up significatly in cost by adding a diffrent neck (500-600) adding ALOT of stamps (600) as well as custom finishes like Chromatic's etc....the sky is the limit.

 

Scotty opened up the doors to these 009s, and there has been a good reception...they are right now the most saught after putter on the entire market. If you go to sc.com and search the registry, you will see the 009s. While there is not ALOT there, in Scottys mind it was too many. He felt like he was taking orders rather then being creative and artistic. Becuase of this around the third week of January, with the Tour in full swing and many orders in the Custom Shop Scotty stopped taking 009 orders. To some that were saving there pennies, this came as a dissapointment...to many, this was a good thing....

 

As of now, you can no longer "order" a 009. You can still get one though. Contact any of the dealers I mentioned above, I prefir Nick or Rand at The Art Of Putters.com they will tell you what your current options are, as they are changing daily...everything from ordering a 009 and selecting finis, weight, length and leaving the rest of the work to Scotty....to ordering a putter inventoried at art of putters.

 

With the haulting of orders at the shop the 009s have appreciated even more, now fetching 2200-2300 on the bay. I ordered my 009 on 1/20just under the deadline...I was lucky, I am expecting it around this time next month...

NSalvatore is correct, the SC Custom Shop is no longer taking orders on the 009 or any other putter for that matter. I've not heard a definitive answer if/when Scotty will again start taking custom orders. That said, you can contact any of the three distributors listed above (like NSalvatore I used/prefer Nick & Rand at Art of Putters) and see what they have in inventory. Mine (pics below) was not special ordered, but simply bought from the available inventory at AOP. I wanted something simple without a bunch of stamping. I'm very pleased with my 009.

 

My take on the 009 is that it is "softer" looking than some of the Scotty Newport-style heads. The top line is a bit thicker and the bumpers are more rounded compared to a Newport 2. The weight (352 grams to be exact) is awesome and the putter simply feels solid.

 

You'll find various opinions on whether or not spending two grand on a putter is a good idea. Some believe there is little or no difference between a "tour" putter and a retail putter, but I'm not one of them. If you have the means and want one, it really doesn't matter what others think. Besides, if you buy one and don't like it, you have a very good chance of selling it quickly and getting most if not all of your money back.

I wish - nope got the Black Pearl finish with very few stamps......Can't wait to get my hands on it. It was the last one that AOP had in stock (other than the Chromatic blue).......Remember we South AFricans have to multiply dollars by 6 to get what we pay in Rands...... :)

Congrats! You won't be disappointed. I've only had mine a couple of months, but each time I pick it up, I have the same great feeling that I had the first day I got it. It is soooooo pure.

 

Couple of questions:

 

1. Did Rand provide the authentication number so we can look it up?

2. If not, what stamps does it have?

3. Is it "beached" or not?

The authentication number is a004810. Not beached, as I prefer the feel of the "solid" face".
