Rescue Dual initial review...

Well, with only one round (and no range time), I can only give my initial impressions of the TaylorMade Rescue Duals (not TP). I have the #3 and #4, and used to play the same lofts in the Rescue Mids for the last couple of years. I got these in hopes of reducing the hooks I (and many others) had with the mids. By changing the weights to a more neutral setting (14g in toe), it is supposed to promote a straight shot rather than the draw bias the mids had. I prefer the regular model as opposed to the TP model, because of the lower COG.

In the limited shots I had with them the weight bias seemed to work, but I can still draw or fade them, so the weights are not a "fix all" for a bad swing. Toe shots felt allot more solid with the 14g in the toe and seemed to loose less distance. Sound was similar as was trajectory, but they seemed more forgiving. The Duals are just a hair bigger and they changed from black paint to a grey metalflake like the 200 steel FWs (I liked the Black better). The HC is also better looking and seems to fit better.

All in all the Rescue Duals are a nice step forward, and have definitely improved on the Rescue Mids IMHO. After a reshaft they may end up being the perfect utility club for me, but only time will tell. :vava:

Nice review! Did you get a chance to put that 14g in the heel and really snap one off?? :D

I got a TP version with Diamana stiff shaft. I feel that the shaft is slightly stiffer than Fujikura Vista. I'm using 2 8g weights for a neutral setting. I think 14g in the toe and 2g in the heel is for a fade setting

what shafts do you have in them because i really like the look of the rescue dual and am considering getting one to replace the hogan cft.

I am just playing the stock shafts right now, but had IRODs in my Mids before. I may go with those again, or I may try an Accuflex ICON HL first, since I like the Assassins so much.

Cannot wait for this thing to come to South Africa. We are always a few weeks behind. The current 16* TP in my bag has a definite hook bias despite the X flex shaft. Looking forward to fiddling with a fade bias setting and the Diamana x flex shaft.

Half the stuff you guys talk about we don't have access to so we just have to make do with a small range of custom shafts or the standard.

Based on the info available and the fact that you tend to hit a hook as the bad shot, I would recommend something along the lines of a 3 or 4 wood. I think good choices that would negate the shot going left would be the Ping, Cleveland or Taylormade.

Obviously the new R7 fairway woods also give you the opption to set the club up to negate the right to left or more so to promote a left to right shot.

The 16* TM Rescue is an OK choice but I think the gap would be better filled by a 3 or 4 wood.

Remember that the primary reason for a particular shot shape is determined by the shaft - except of course for offset heads.
