Looking for help selecting the right ball

Trying to make a change

Ok, so I'm almost out of the balls I've been using all season (Nike Power Distance Super Soft). The ball has been ok but I would like to try something else.

I'm hoping someone that knows what they're talking about can help me make a decent selection.

Here's my game at the moment in a nutshell:

- 15 handicap

- Moderate Swing Speed

- Sometimes fighting the slice

- Looking for a little more length than the Nike ball I've been playing

- Would like more spin around the greens but I don't know how this will effect the occasional slicing problem

- Less than $35 a dozen:-P

So basically something that doesn't feel super soft on the tee but it will check up noticeably on the greens.

I would appreciate suggestions. Thanks!

I played the NXT Tour ball last night. It does feel firmer than the PD soft off the tee and had less spin. It has a soft cover so it feels OK around the greens but you are not going to get it to check up the same as a high spin ball.

 

I think you have two competing objectives here and you'll have to choose between a ball that minimizes your side spin and checks up well on the greens.

 

I paid $27 for the dozen at my local shop.

I would have launched this in the golf ball forum. There are just so many good balls in that 24-32 dollar range you can get anything. If you're a Nike guy you may want to try the Vapor, I've heard good things. I would search the ball tests from Golf Digest & GOLF, and just read lots of posts in the golf ball forum. Good info out there, just gotta find it.

I am partial to the Bridgestone e7, but it may not have enough spin around the greens for you

I would say any model of Bridgestone.Find your price range and the playability you are looking for. All of them are nice.I have some of them all and switch depending on course and conditions..

How about the Srixon Trispeed? Low spin and straight off the driver, decent spin around the greens, great feel and durable. Affordable too. It's also suitable for swing speeds of 80 mph+

 

I regulate between this and the Z-Star, both of which are first class.

Stay away from the AD333 though. It spins more off of the driver than the tri-speed.
