I thought Leupold had models that had slope with one face, and met usga regulations with another.
They are still illegal regardless if you can disable it completely or not. Bad rule but so is not being able to use range finders in all events.

It is illegal to use in a tournament with the slope option turn off?

apparently that's what people here are saying. i guess the feeling is, it's too easy to "trick" people and be using the slope option. I think the governing bodies need to focus more on the clubs and balls then these range finders. I don't care what the device tells you, you still have to hit the ball. and one further, they should be allowed for use on the pro tours as well, which would greatly speed rounds.

Yes with the current rule the way it is the device is illegal. Leupold will even tell you that. If any device has the capability regardless if it is turned off or physically disabled it is not allowed.

did you get the slope version. i'm thinking that might be interesting to use just to demonstrate to myself what slope can do to distances.

based on reviews at amazon, it sounds like the overall most applauded is the bushnell 1600. the pin seeker technology is apparently superior making it much easier to shoot flags. it's bad enough you lose all the convenience of quick glance gps, you don't want to be standing there for several minutes trying to zone in on a flag.

Got my GX-3 today and its way smaller than I expected and the OLED is the Cat's Meow! Theres a reason why the Miltary/Police SWAT use Leupold!
In regards to recent reviews, I would go with a Leupold rang-finder. From what I've heard, they're one of the more technological advanced range-finders available.

i'm sure the Leupold has superior optics... but... how it is at shooting flags? it's great and all, that military and law enforcement use them, but they aren't shooting golf flags. most of the reviews say without a prism that they are hard to use, and that the pinseeker technology in the bushnells makes them easier to use.

Just got mine today too..from Discount Dans....love it. I too was surprised by how small it was, but it seems very rugged and the red oled was money. I was able to snipe flag from 215yds, didnt' try it from further out. The course i played doens't have prisms on the flag so didn't get to use pinseeker. Can't wait to get out and play some more. I also have a sonocaddie and I just downloaded Swing by Swing for android phone. So far, the Swing by Swing seems better than my sonocaddie...and the swing by swing was free.

It's the fastest laser I have used (GX-3). It has it's own version of pin-seeker and prism lock. In scan mode you can hit many objects quickly and it constantly updates. I usually hit bunker lips/runoffs after getting the pin distance. I have hit a flag in 2 seconds from 318 yards. I want to try farther.

Played using my Gx-3 today, unit is very fast. I was able to snipe a flag at 237 yds. Luckily my hands were steady enough to keep it on the flag. I was also able to pick the flag up quite easily with scan mode from 237yds out. Shooting the flag is a lot easier is the group ahead of you is on the greens. Haven't had a chance to use pin seeker yet.

Very happy with my purchase so far.

sounds like you already have a bushnell. If I had a bushnell, I would prob be on here too questioning the leupold.

So for Pinseeker to work you the flags have to have prisms? That's not how the manual reads for the 1600.
No you don't need prisms with either bushnel or leupold. The Leupold has prism lock that will beep instantly when you are in scan mode and point it near the flag. It locks on and beeps telling you it has the flag. You can still hit anything with scan mode and it's instant yardage it just doesn't beep and lock on.
