TaylorMade in the house!
Hey all,

I thought I would add to the thread with pics of my newly purchased set. This my first foray into the serious equipment realm for sure. I had been gaming a reeeaally old set of Dunlop cavity backs I have had for about 15-20 years, but with the passing of my Father earlier this year, I made this sort of a "memorial" purchase in his honor.

Even though it seems like is was one of TaylorMade's more "odd" releases, I dig the r7 driver in a big way! Of the three shafts it came with, the Matrix (55g) is on the light side for me, but both the Whiteboard and Rombax (65g and 75g respectively) launch very predictably and consistenly for me. The increase in driver head size is such a huge confidence boost in getting off the tee!
The R9 fairway woods are a bit harder to hit for me (always had issues with a wood off the fairway) but if you get a hold off it right - sweet! The stiff flex Rombax in these seem really tight.
I had originally hit the newer Burner 09 irons with the 65g shafts in them, but they were SO head-heavy and "whippy" that I went with the Tour Burner iron set and had some custom Fujikura E380i (91g) graphite shafts put in them instead. It makes for a much more balanced club without the heaviness that the 09s had - at least to me. Still a nice stiffness but without the shock of the steel I was starting to feel. It's taking me a while to get used to graphite in my irons, but I think I will like the change.
The Z-TP wedges make chips stop on a dime, and with the KBS black nickel shafts I had put in, they are "dead sexy" (insert Austin Powers voice here!)
I had begun to dislike my blade style putter, and this Spyder mallet style with the wide, low COG is just what suits my comfort zone. A bit on the "overkill" side I suppose for a putter, but it's all about confidence.
The Ogio bag is nothing I would want to lug around a course on foot (hence the push cart) but I can't imagine a nicer-looking, more complete bag to house these babies! Feels like I'm on tour with this thing.

Hope you all enjoy the pics and "fairways and greens" to everyone!

Cheers,
Kev

Nice bag. I have the same Ogio bag and always like to see how others have their clubs arranged in it. I swap all the time and can't seem to find the right arrangement. Currently have my 2 wedges on either side of the putter.

I think there is 15 slots in teh bag though. Sometimes a ball retriever gets to ride along with my clubs.

Yeah, it does have 15 slots and I have 'em all filled! (as someone already pointed out, LOL!)

I usually leave behind one of the wedges or the 3 iron depending on what course I'm playing.

I absolutely love the bag though! I know some folks put the woods on the outer edge, but I have always preferred to have 'em in the back.

Thanks for all the great compliments, guys - I really feel fortunate to have a nice set of sticks, and look forward to seeing if/how it helps my game progress! As someone else said, if I can't BE great, at least I can LOOK it!

Cheers,
Kev
Nice Sticks, I'd prefer the Taylormade TP irons but still like the set up especially the woods.

:ninja:
As do I to tell you the truth - but regrettfully, I am realistic enough to know I wouldn't maximize those puppies yet! Maybe these will get me there, and I can get 'em on sale next year!

Thanks for the props though!

Cheers,
Kev

(off to sleep in my Ogio bag!) LOL!

Great looking clubs, those R9 FWs are nice. I only have a 15* but I'm sure I'd like all the others too.
Do you have any pictures of the dunlop irons?
You know, I don't; but could certainly do so! They were lableled something like "Cavity Flow System" and I really liked them to tell you the truth - but clubs almost 20 years old were no match for the lure of brand new stuff!

I'll post some up later this weekend.

By the by for whoever might be interested, I picked up a couple of aftermarket shafts - A Fubuki 63 x5ct stiff and a Fujikura Rombax 6W06 stiff. I had 2 of the shaft tips I had in the r7 driver set I purchased pulled and put on the new shafts. Very excited to try 'em out this weekend! I loved the OEM Whiteboard, so I am interested to know how the Fubuki is, and even though I also liked the OEM Rombax, the 75g weight was a biiit too heavy, so I go one a bit lighter. Also had them butt trimmed about 1/4" as I've been reading the improvement many folks have had when they cut down their driver length a little. I'll chime in once I've hit 'em.

Also ordered some headcovers that will be a bit more "fun" versus all the TM stuff I have now. Trying to make the bag look a little less off the shelf!

Cheers,
Kev
NICE BAG! I LOVEEE my TM TP wedges, got the Y grooves instead of the Z but they still stop the ball and can back it upm they look so good and i will def be baggin them in the future
Thanks for the props! And you are right on - these wedges stop stuff on a dime! I feel like a "big kid" now that I can actually get my ball to back up now and then - sweet!

Cheers,
Kev
