new irons replacing slingshot

Just want to know your recommendations for a new set of irons to replace my slingshot. I want a better feel and more forgiving iron and would you know any brand that i can buy only 5-pw because i already have a 19* hybrid and planning to buy a 22* hybrid because i can't swing consistently 3 and 4 irons

callaway makes forgiving irons..ive never liked anything of theirs until i tried the x-tours and man those are a sweet set of sticks...but thats just me...ive never liked callaway before but an inkling to try the ft-3 has opened my eyes to seeing that they are a good company...

If you liked the Nikes, you should check out their other clubs. But besides that, ping makes good clubs

 

that are forgiving, also cobra but I think those are a bit to clunky (not defined enough) good luck :golfer:

try the new titleist 775s they only come in sets of 4-gap, but when you order from titleist you can but irons individually. I hit the 775s before i got my 695s and when i grabbed it i just hit it without looking and i was blown away, looks almost exactly like 704 but much better feel and forgiveness. Workability is also not as bad as i would have expected from a game improvement iron. Check em out.

No offense, but what Tungsten33 said is true. If your having problems with your swing, and being that the Nike Slingshots are one of the most forgiving clubs on the market, switching to a different name brand club would not make sense in the instance. Spend the money on lessons to get your swing flaws worked out. Once you are able to hit the ball consistently, then take a look at rewarding yourself with a different set of irons. Now, if you just want to buy new irons because you don't like the Slingshots, that's a different matter :-D My recommendations for game improving irons are as follows in no particular order: Nike Slingshot OSS (as TheReptilia suggested), Cleveland Launcher/LP's, TaylorMade Rac OS2's, Mizuno MX-900, and Callaway Big Berthas. If your a mid-handicapper then the following might be good irons for you, Nike NDS's, Cleveland CG-4's (tied for my top recommendation), Taylor Made RAC LT2's, Mizuno MX-23's/MP-60's(tied for my top recommendation), Callaway X-18's. Demo the clubs if possible and see which club feels the best to you. Get fitted for your height and swing type.

i'm gonna agree with tungsten33 on this too, but have one question, what are struggeling with with these irons? are you blading them a lot?

 

i personally can't hit the slingshots to save my life. when they first came out i went to a demo day and the nike rep had me hit the 6 iron and i couldn't do it to save my life. just about got into an arguement with the guy when i asked to see the pro combo. he said it was too much club for me (i'd beee playing the pro combo for 2 monthes at this point). was just hiting them perfectly. even asked to see the forged 6 iron and again, hitting it solid. for me the slingshot sole is too big and the bounce is too much. this could be your problem. if so you could look at the nike nds or callaway big bertha.

Spend that money on lessons. You'll go broke trying to find a "magic arrow".

You should be able to order any set you like in a 5-PW configuration, and like others here mentioned make sure you get fitted when you do because if you did not when you purchased your Slingshots that might be part of the problems you're having with them. Four other very forgiving irons I've owned/tried are the Mizuno MX-17 and MX-23, Cobra 3100 and Callaway Big Bertha 2004.

Actually I have started my lessons already and the golf pro even asked me if I was fitted with my irons because

I'm bladin it most of the time don't know if the irons was short or long for me and the golf pro just let me use an old iron and work on my swing with it.

 

I was never fitted with my irons I just replaced my old taylormade super steel with the slingshot and it was on sale so i never bothered having a club fitting because they want to charge me for it. i tried it in their indoor range it was of sourse better than my old supersteel.

 

Any suggestion where I can find a good club fitter for irons in Jersey city ? I'll just bring the slingshot and see if

it woudl work with my swing with just a little adjustment or replace it totally and try your recommendations.

you have original Slingshot and you wanted more forgiving? It's one of more forgiving irons so you're better of spending money on lessons...

 

I was thinking the samething... It doesn't get much more forgiving then slingshots, unless you count mulligans

I had the similar problem last year with my Nike Slingshot copies that i got fitted to me. Since i got those clubs last year i had problems with a 5 iron or higher and i was chunking alot of my shots. My suggestions would be to get on a launch monitor to see what is out there for you or maybe invest in a swing trainer. I've found that the Swingsetter by David Leadbetter worked alot for me. I'm sure you can find a trainer that will help you in the long run. Hope this helps, Steve

You should try the Taylormade R7 XD and CGB irons. I have the XDs and they are just awesome!!

The Nike CPRs are even easier to hit than the Slingshots, and only come from 5 to PW as they are designed to be used with hybrids.

 

The TM RAC OS and R7 CGBs are also very forgiving. I've never tried them, but Tour Edge and Adams make hybrid sets that look pretty easy to hit.

 

A used set of the original Big Berthas might be an idea too.
