Veteren's Day Thought
I wonder how many young men who could have changed the history of golf, never had a chance to feel the joy of perfectly hit shot or heard the plunk of a ball as it falls into the hole, because they made the ultimate sacrifice so that the rest of us could? To those untold and largely forgotten souls who perished at Passchendaele, Chateau-Thierry, and Belleau Wood so that future generations could live in a world without war; to our brave grandfathers, uncles, and brothers who died at Normandy, Midway, and Okinawa because the world had not learned its lesson; to those brave souls who felt the hand of God on their shoulders in Korea, Vietnam, Lebanon, Kuwait, Iraq, Afganistan, and countless other places during our watch - the next golf shot we hit should be for you. I hope it's a joyous one.

Thanks for the opportunities you gave to all of us.

I have a rendezvous with Death
At some disputed barricade,
When Spring comes back with rustling shade
And apple-blossoms fill the air--
I have a rendezvous with Death
When Spring brings back blue days and fair.

- Alan Seger (American poet who died in the First Battle of the Somme while fighting as a volunteer in the French Foreign Legion, July 1, 1916)

JWBooth,
I'm not really sure just how I want to reply to your post. You seem to have an issue when it comes to the confederacy. The name you choose is that of the assassin of a president of the United States (Commander in Chief). in another post where you name your as your dream foursome yourself, Lewis Payne, Samual Mudd (sic) and John Surratt all of whom were accused and or convicted of taking part in the Lincoln assassination conspiracy. Were the names Gacy, Dahmer, and Bundy already being used?

Thanks Mr Smith,
I just returned from a cold and damp 18 with a fellow golfer and Vietnam Vet who is dying of Cancer. He played the greens only, putting from my ball position. His Son helped him from his cart and Chair. I can only say,"it was a great match!"

We both picked up on the last green, as we agreed that we would play again...someday.

i agree with you joe, not sure what to make of the user name and avatar, i thought that stuff was done and over with a long time ago, time to let it go. i know we are all free to choose how we represent ourselves in this community, but some people just take it to the extreme. i just don;t get it, JAT.

Mr. Booth, I believe that every American honors all of her dead. To suggest that a special effort should be made to isolate American war dead, one from another is a denial of the work of generations of Americans who rebuilt what human frailty almost destroyed. It is very sad that the solemn debt that we the recipients of the gifts paid for by all of our fallen should be in any way sullied by an appeal to divisiveness or separation. We are one people, united by our common heritage, our common dreams, and our common love for all that this land stands for. That there were times in our history when we let ourselves be ripped apart by those who were not able to see beyond themselves is all the more reason for us, their children, to make certain that we will never be separated by the same forces that spilled the blood of Americans on both sides. I am certain that the souls of my great grandfathers, one a Union soldier, and the other a Johnny Reb, would be very disappointed that a small few still beat the drums. I suspect that if they could talk, they would say, "Let us lie in peace. Don't use us to support any cause that pulls apart the fabric of our great flag again."

Mr. Booth, I don't know who you are or why you are here. Whatever your cause, I suspect that it is a lonely one. Please forgive me if I leave you to yourself.

AGREE and I invite you to tell that to the VFW Post in Homestead Fla, who excluded direct ancestors of those veterans (I mentioned in my message to this thread) from honoring their loved ones in Veteran Day Services.
About 30 seconds of research was all that was necessary to identify the fringe group involved in the protest that you mention. Given the ultra-radical nature of this group's positions (and presumably, your's as well) it is clear that any effort at reasoned discourse is pointless. I would not be terribly disappointed if a marshall would have the good judgement to block all further comments.

Finally, I would like to quote a CSA veteran on the subject. A Mr. R. E. Lee is quoted as saying,

"Remember, we are all one country now. Dismiss from your mind all sectional feeling, and bring them [our children] up to be Americans."

It seems sad that this "Mr Booth" used 4 of his first 10 posts to bring up a divisive topic using a post that was meant to honor those who have given much, and in some cases all. i agree that this is not a politcal forum, but it just burns my arse for people to take advantage of an honorable holiday to further their misguided and marginal agenda.

let it go man and God Bless ALL Americans.

mods, if you deem it necessary, please close this post.

Thank you for posting this topic Mr Smith but since someone is trying to separate, and to interpret in a manner other than which it was intended, we are forced to end this discussion.

Thank You
