anyone know what to do?

I dont feel like spending 2 hours goin through the rules so i figured i post it on here.

I was playin with my uncle when i pulled my drive left, over the cart path, and next to a tree. The tree was obscuring my normal (right handed) swing so i decided to flip the club over and play it lefty (ala tiger). When i took my stance lefty, my feet were on the cart path.

Do I get a free drop? and if so can i hit it righty?

Under the Rules of golf if at any point the Cart Path interferes with your stance you are entitled to relief so Im pretty sure you can just drop away. If you can take a drop than you can play it any way you want

i can't cite the rule off the top of my head, but 100% for sure the rules of golf allow that under the circumstances you describe (i.e where playing the shot lefty is the play you would make even if the cart path was not there). You can take proper relief and upon taking relief, if you are able to play righty, then have at it...

Chip is correct. The rule (24-2) actually says -

[i]Interference by an immovable [url="http://www.usga.org/workarea/linkit.aspx?linkidentifier=id&itemid=14253#Obstructions"]obstruction[/url] occurs when a ball lies in or on the [url="http://www.usga.org/workarea/linkit.aspx?linkidentifier=id&itemid=14253#Obstructions"]obstruction[/url], or when the [url="http://www.usga.org/workarea/linkit.aspx?linkidentifier=id&itemid=14253#Obstructions"]obstruction[/url] interferes with the player's [url="http://www.usga.org/workarea/linkit.aspx?linkidentifier=id&itemid=14253#Stance"]stance[/url] or the area of his [u][b]intended[/b][/u] swing.

24-2b/17 Obstruction Interferes with Abnormal Stroke; Abnormal Stroke Reasonable in Circumstances

 

Q. A right-handed player's ball is so close to a boundary fence on the left of a hole that the player, in order to play towards the hole, must play left-handed. In playing a left-handed stroke, the player's backswing would be interfered with by an immovable obstruction. Is the player entitled to relief from the obstruction?

 

A. The player is entitled to relief since employment of an abnormal (left-handed) stroke is necessary in the circumstances — see Exception under Rule 24-2b.

 

The proper procedure is for the player to take relief for a left-handed stroke in accordance with Rule 24-2b(i).

 

The player may then use a normal right-handed swing for his next stroke. If the obstruction interferes with the swing or stance for the right-handed stroke, the player may take relief for the right-handed stroke in accordance with Rule 24-2b(i).
