I am PO'ed because USGA put the Western Junior Invitational and the U.S junior amatuer at the same dates........ So i am doing a U.S amatuer qualifier!

I'm not trying to qualify for the Am. or anything like that but I thought it would be mentionable to let you all know that the defending champ, Kevin Tway, is in my high school conference here in OKC, and that in the past two years our schools have gotten paired together a few times. I haven't been paired with Tway yet, but I have grown familiar to seeing him on the putting green, range, and on the course with Bob in tow.

 

Just an interesting fact, at last year's sectional qualifier for the Am., Kevin had to make over a 30 footer on the last hole to advance! Not bad, huh?

also I think we should remember the runner up, Bradley Johnson, he passed away this year in a car crash.

And if i am corrct the Big "I" starts July 29trh or 30th and its in texas this year. so youy could play Jr. Am and Big "I" but not Optimist if you want to play for any of the others.

I know that the state sectional for Big "I" is around middle of july so you also have to check that out before entering the Big "I" because it will conflict with other tournaments. Yes, the Big "I" is in odessa, texas at the end of july beginning of august.

We have local qualifying for the Big "I" then the sectional / state qualifier is at the Jr. Boys cvhampionship in Penssylvania.

That is true..... its a very expensive tournament and then the hotel you stay at isn't the cheapest either.

Yeah, Im lucky cause i live in south florida and its only like 30-45 mins from my house, so i can sleep in my own bed !

I qualified for the Optimist last year and decided not to go because of the price. If you win the qualifier you don't have to worry about it because they pay for you to go.

 

I am going to try to qualify for the US Junior again this year, not sure where I am going to try.

 

I was an alternate 2 years ago and last year I played bad.

 

Hopefully this year I will qualify (its my last chance).

 

Don't go to Daniels, WV to qualify because they only have one spot and Peter Uihlein is already signed up for it.

i don't think you shouldn't go there because of peter uihlein...... Peter Uihlein is a human junior golf like the rest of us! he is beatable and you never know. He shot 79 in the US open qualifer when all the other leadbetter kids qualified with 67-71..... everyone has off days. don't pick your sites because you see a good kid there

We have a house in Ballen Isles which is the gated community across the street from PGA National so i dont have to worry about hotels and that kinda stuff for the Optimist.

I should have qualified 2 years ago.

 

I shot 69 the first round (32-37) and the 2nd round I was -1 through 8 holes, I bogeyed #9, then made par on 10 and 11 then I skulled a bunker shot on #12 and made triple and ended up shooting 75 and missing it by 3.

 

I was an alternate.

Thats funny the thing with Peter Uhlien was brought up, because today in the final round of the Scott Robertson Memorial, he shot 78 and blew his lead .
