How good is it?

Hey Everyone,

I am coming to Orlando for a golf trip in a week and was wondering if anyone has played at World Woods lately. We are considering driving there for a day since it sounds like such a great track? It is a bit of a road trip from Orlando though. Is it worth the trip or are we better off staying right around Orlando? thanks

Well, Yes and it depends. It is that good, you won't be disappointed at all. Especially if you make a day of it and play all 36. That said, Orlando itself has some very good courses, you can kill a week in Orlando and still not play every great course.

That said, if it fits your itinerary and doesn't cheat you out of another round, I'd say it's worth making the trip.

I've lived in Tampa since 1996 and my take on World Woods is as follows. It has an excellent practice facility and two great courses. But in my experience the conditions can vary greatly. I've played there when it's perfect, and I've played there when it's equal to a true muni. Since I live an hour from the place it ticks me off when I get there to find the conditions less than expected.

If you're in Orlando and haven't played Orange County National I'd suggest saving yourself some time and distance and playing there instead.

World Woods' greatest asset is also its greatest detriment. It is in the middle of nowhere. Both courses are enjoyable, but really not worth the drive from Orlando (if you are only in FL for a short period of time). The conditions do vary greatly from month to month. I'm not sure that either course lives up to the top 100 billing received in a number of publications.

That said, I make the drive north from Tampa to play 36 at least a couple of times per year.

Worldwoods is a great course, love both the courses they have there. I think you can find some good courses to play in the Orlando area that will also be worth it. I wouldn't drive all the way to Worldwoods from Orlando.

have not checked on recently but earlier this year conditions were reported to be pretty bad. Florida winter (yes we have winter down here LOL) was unusually cold which Florida courses do not like, plus lower than normal play due to economy and related issues, etc... They are just not making money so no money being put back into the course. I would definitely try to get a handle on current conditions before making a big drive.

That being said, they are fun course(s), if you in the area it's worth checking out if condition is decent. We played for ridiculously low prices in mid 09, in the $30 a round range.
