Fuji VT80D and Mitsubishi ShaqX

what modern shafts compare?
I currently play a Fuji VT80D X in my Adams 4250DF 9.5 and 3446-F 16 fw. This shaft profile works well for me. I have also played the Mitsubishi Shaqx previously in drivers and fws.

Since finding any additional VT80D X or ShaqX shafts seem unlikely, what current shafts compare in profile and play similarly to the VT80D and ShaqX?

I really could use some feedback since WRX member stage 1350 unselfishly sold me his last two VT80Ds.

Thanks,
Rev.

Was the vt80D similar to the Fuji VTLT but heavier? I know for a fact that the ShaqX was a beast of a shaft and definitely more shaft than the Diamana WB 83x so I won't recommend the WB. I'd say the PX X8A4, UST V2 86x, Axiv Core Green 79X, Voodoo XPP8 (Voodoo with the Protopype profile, Matrix F7M2 (LTD). There are others but these are all low(er) launching which I think is what you're looking for.

Matrix f7m2 low tip deflection in x flex, is close in comparison with the shaqx. You have to be an animal to hit that.

Thanks for responses.

Of all the shafts that have been suggested, I have only hit the F7M2 [no the low torque]. It feels similar to the ShaqX but is in the mid 70s in weight.

I have had the Adams/VT80D in the bag for so long that I haven't tried other shafts for several years and 80 gram shafts like the VT80D seem less available by manufacturers than several years ago.

I never found either the ShaqX or VT80D to be difficult to hit. The VT80D launches a little higher than the ShaqX but both some have some kick at impact.

Guess I will have to try some pulls to see if there is something that compares favorably...maybe the BB 83X or the PX 84A.

Thanks,
Rev.

Bro, I almost forgot..........matrix has a shaft called the 8m2. It's a heavy shaft in the 80 gram range that launches even lower than f7m2. If you can, you might want to look into that. I've hit the f7m2, but never the 8m2. You might like it.

I have hit the the 8M2 in a friend's fw and it is more shaft than I want. I would hate to start sounding like Rafael Nadal hitting ground strokes when I swing through the ball on every driver hole tee box... LOL I think the F7M2 will be a better option.

Mike,

ShaqX was essentially the prototype for Diamana Blueboard 83-X. I thought the VT80D spun just a hair more, but launched about the same. All three (Blueboard 83, ShaqX, VT80D)feel great.

I'd start with the Diamana series. It gives you weight and launch options. Want a little more spin? Redboard 83-X. Less spin? Whiteboard.

The PX series is going to be much lower spin unless you get the Mid tip, which I haven't seen in the 80g range. Voodoo XPP8 and PYPE 80-X are going to launch lower with a about the same spin as VT80D. The F7M2 LTD was a good shaft, but felt a little lighter than VT80D. Altus LT (Altus 80) is going to play softer flex for flex and will launch higher, but with about the same spin as VT80D.

That's all I can think of for now. Hope this helps.

I almost feel bad posting this: http://cgi.ebay.com/Titleist-906F4-18-5-5-wood-w-Fujikura-TOUR-SPEC-VT80D-/350358932505

I've seen a couple of them recently so I wouldn't lose hope completely. It does make sense to look at current shaft offerings. I haven't played a VT80D so I can't offer a comparison. Someone mentioned the Proforce V2 86x before and I will say that I've played it tipped ~1" in a 3 wood and it was very good. As I swung it harder, it ramped up gradually up in kick rather than being an all or nothing, you got it or you didn't (though I wouldn't call it smooth). This made my 3 wood a great choice on the late holes.

Good timing on this thread. I just picked up a VT80D after posting a WTB for a Vista Pro. Ideally wanted another BB83, but didnt want to pay that much so I figure a heavy VP would work. When the VT80D was offered I figured what the heck.

Still en route, but what should I expect from this shaft? Read alot of good things, but some say it is super low launch and spin while others say it is very close in profile to the BB83. I went with a stiff even though I could probably handle an X (ss 110ish). Should I think about tipping 1/2"?

fuji 8z08 low launch, low spin and the matrix ozik 8m2 is the best mid weight shaft out now.
The 8m2 is not mid weight. It's heavy when put into a driver when it gets to x flex and beyond. I've been hearing good things about it when put into fairway woods though.

You may want to try the Miyazaki line...The Kusala Blue might be just the ticket for you.
You mean the kusala black. The shaqx was a low spin/low launch shaft. The kusala blue is mid launch/mid spin. I've tried the kusala black and it doesn't feel or play like the shaqx.
