callaway upro worth it?

I've now used my uPro for 2 months and it's been great. I'm very happy with the overall accuracy of it. I have a laser rangefinder and the uPro hasn't been more than 3 yards off so far. It's pretty easy to use and Callaway CS was very helpful with a battery issue I had when it was new.

Yardage book and laser are the best way. As long as you can point the laser it wont lie. Period.

I've been pretty happy with the uPro ... much faster than the rangefinder that I had also used. The rangefinder still serves it's purpose on the range when practicing but when I'm on the course I use the uPro almost exclusively.

I have owned a upro and find that sometimes aerial images are a bit blurry etc.

Wouldnt even mind them making a graphic of each hole in a aerial view. Think it would be a bit easier at times to read also.

Love how the hazards are given right on teh hole and when you hit the green the hazards are shown and measured. This lacks in most skycaddies which is annoying.

Regular mode is free, Pro mode courses are $10-$4 per course depending on if you purchase credits for 1 course or 150 courses.

Version numbers. They do update courses when the maps get updated, when courses get renovated, etc.

Thanks. That's what I thought. I am going to buy the larger UPro. My buddy has the little "go" version. It was way too small, but I really like the graphics.

It was supposed to have happened about a year ago, but was back-burnered due to the acquistion of the company by Callaway and shifting their focus to getting the uPro Go out. At last check it was in final beta testing and due to be out this summer. Who knows if we'll ever see it.

I suspect neat UPro's flyover yardage screens, graphics and scoring functions are in the future of most golf GPS units. Sad part is for those functions to become common place companies will force users to upgrade. The best part of that will be they will have to bring down pricing to make those products more consumable.

Good luck with that. I bought the upro over a year ago and was promised in an email from Callaway support that this would be ready around Oct 2009. I finally gave up and bought a Garmin G5....

I really like my uPro. My buddies and I have recently started playing a wider variety of courses and it helps immensely when you are unfamiliar with a course. Even if you play one course a lot, it's easier to just check then constantly walking off yardage or just guessing. The basic mode is plenty good enough but I like getting the Pro version of courses so you can measure to specific areas.

There are a few downsides though. First, it doesn't take into account elevation. Second, I've noticed slight problems connecting to the satellite. I have to power the thing on and off a few times when I get to a course so I can connect.. Finally, I'm not sure about it's durability. I've heard plenty of people say that their unit just shattered into pieces and I broke my first one rather easily. I had it in my pocket and when i sat down I heard a small crack and the screen was toast. I had a few pieces of change in my pocket and I guess one hit it just right. Seems like a rather small thing but it killed it completely.

I would recommend the uPro, especially with their $100 rebate and free travel case offer. I would also suggest getting a carrying case of some kind as well. I just picked up [url="http://www.blackberrysource.com/store/catalog.asp?item=717"]this case[/url] and the uPro fits in there perfectly. Good luck!

Stats package is now out for the UPRO for a $20 fee. There is also a free update that adds some new features to the UPRO. All courses now have the same virtual green view that the "go" model does.
