Burton Leather Bag - Staff Size

Need help in replacing a stolen bag...

A good old friend of mine had his black leather Burton (staff size) bag stolen back in early April. He's been able to easily replace all of his clubs, but has been unable to locate and replace his beloved old leather bag.

The only reference I could find to a bag like his was called a Burton Pinehurst. From what I can tell Burton hasn't made this bag for several years. I did find one photo that my friend confirmed was very much the same, except for maybe the handle.

If anyone has one of these bags and would consider parting with it, PLEASE let me know. My friend has a birthday coming up in about a month and a similar bag would make a great present... BTW, it doesn't have to look new... he just really liked that old leather bag!

All I can tell you is to stay on Ebay for Leather Golf Bags. Occassionally, a nice leather bag will show up. But make sure it is leather. A lot of sellers will advertise the bag as leather when in fact it is made of vynil. Good Luck.

I don't know if Burton is even in business anymore let alone making leather bags.. In the old days you could get a 11-12 inch leather bag that was a caddy killer... Talk about heavy and when it rained YIKES....... You used to get a giant medal plaque on the bag with your name on it.. Some were exotic leathers (ostrich, alligator) and cost thousands of dollars.. They even made a slightly smaller version of Rodney's bag in Caddy Shack..

I caddied for Jerry Lewis once and he had a giant leather golf bag that would collapse like an accordian when you set it down as it had lost it's stiffness due to rain. He also had close to 20 clubs in it (all kenneth smith woods instead of irons).. After hauling this monster around for 120 strokes he gave me a quarter tip...

I really hope you don't expect caddies to carry that bag, if so, I can't say what I would call you on this forum because I'd get a nasty gram from the mods! I can't stand these overly robust Belding leather bags, no need for that. I had to lug one of these crappy behemoth's for 18 holes, it was made out of old basketballs... They guy came back the next week and I told him I was going to use a sunday bag from the caddy shack. He had a pair of shoes and 2 dozen balls inside that bag!?!

Burton is back in business. Dynamic Brands bought them last year from Fore Front Holdings out of bankruptcy. They also own BagBoy... Here is a link to the new web site. The new Bags look Great.

I feel his pain, I like the classic Burton bags myself, got on the "ye Old Cart and Bag" section to ask a question about my Burton and saw your post, I was lucky enough to find one on Ebay a few years ago just like the pic you posted but smaller, I think its 9 and 1/2, but black and real leather, I'll second the Ebay recommendation and also to make sure its leather, most advertise its leather but its not, I had the seller give me the model/ser # from the bottom and varified it with Burton, I've been looking for a another real black leather Burton on Ebay for the last 6 months with no luck, but hopefully one will pop up for you.
He's probably not interested cause this ones not real leather (to be honest its hard to tell the difference, its looks just like my real lthr one but has a different feel, same style/model but in vinyl) but I have a blue Burton (looked good with my Hogans, not so good with my TM TP's) in exc. condition I'd part with if you can't find a lthr one.[b] [/b]

I have this exact bag I bought 15 years if not 20 years agon in perfect condition. If you wish to buy it shoot me an email. I can ship after you pay. Its black and looks exactly the same. It was the best bag I could buy at the time made by Burton. They just dont make them like they use too.

I was researching some golf bags that were my great aunt and great uncles. I happened to stumble across this forum that you started many many years ago. The men’s bag I have is very similar. I’ve been trying to research them because they seem to me as if they are real leather, and are in darn good condition (besides needing a little cleaned up from being stored in wood cabinets). Was wondering if you knew anything about them and could tell me anything about it. I know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about golf. Thanks!

Your bag doesn't appear to be made by the Burton Co. and it's impossible to tell from photos if this bag is leather. Look on the backside of the material and see if it looks and feels like suede. If it does, it's leather. If it looks like a fabric or "jute", it's vinyl. Also, leather smells like leather... vinyl has no smell.

Some years ago, I happened upon an almost new Burton leather staff bag in brown at a thrift shop. Paid $6 for it. A huge bag, too big to use, (I walk) it sat in my cellar for a couple years. I donated it to a church auction, where I hope it went to someone to appreciate.

It really was a beautiful bag.

I came across this thread while doing some research on a new, but "old school" style Burton genuine (I know the difference ) leather bag that I recently had the opportunity to purchase. The story I got was that it was won in a tournament at Fawn Lake Country Club in Fredricksburg, Va. (the course logo is embroidered on the bottom pocket), but the winner didn't need/want the bag. I realize that having the logo (although it is a Palmer designed course) may diminish the value, but it is as "new" and a beautiful chocolate brown color with sheepskin padded dividers and carry strap. I'm trying to establish the value as I'm in the process of deciding whether I want to keep it or sell it. I've seen leather bags in years past in the $1000-$1200 range. I contacted Dynamic Brands and spoke with an ill-informed "customer service" person who I felt like wanted nothing more than to simply get me off the phone. No help there. Would anyone here possibly know of any sources where I could establish a value on the bag?

Burton ceased production of 100% leather golf bags about twenty years ago.

There will be a date code on the bottom showing the year of production.

I'm guessing yours will be from the last few years Burton manufactured these bags.

Do you have the matching rain/travel cover and/or the matching Burton leather headcovers?

You're correct that the embroidered logo will unfortunately diminish its value.

What would your bag bring on eBay? - It's REALLY difficult to say, but I would guess $175-300 + Shipping (shipping is expensive!)

Maybe you should consider contacting the Pro Shop at Fawn Lake CC? Just a thought...
