Cheating - unintentional, but still cheating

Recommended Posts

Doesn't the rule state that two club lengths is one of the 'additional options' for a lateral water hazard? That says to me that the 26-1 b are still options. One of which is the drop behind the hazard with no limit to how far behind as long as you keep the point at which the ball crossed and the hole. Was your friend keeping the point of crossing and the hole in line?

...or am I reading this 26-1 rule wrong?

Check with him on his understanding of the rule. My father, in spite of my explaining this to him a zillion times, still tries to drop the ball "in a line back from the hazard to where he hit the shot". I say, "No Dad, it's a line from the hazard to the flag". Many times this doesn't give you a better drop than the two-club length drop. Anyway, my point is that many people don't get this part of the rule right.

+1 for printing up the instructions or getting him a rule book with pictures.

We have a winner. And if he doesn't understand the reference, then it's an automatic DQ, and loss of his man card.

Truer words were never spoken. That has to be the greatest golf quote of all time.

b. Drop a ball behind the water hazard, keeping the point at which the original ball last crossed the margin of the water hazard directly between the hole and the spot on which the ball is dropped, with no limit to how far behind the water hazard the ball may be dropped; or

c. As additional options available only if the ball last crossed the margin of a lateral water hazard, drop a ball outside the water hazard within two club-lengths of and not nearer the hole than (i) the point where the original ball last crossed the margin of the water hazard or (ii) a point on the opposite margin of the water hazard equidistant from the hole.

You are correct - did someone say differently ? blink.gif

While we're all in nitpick mode, I feel compelled to point out that it was Goldfinger who said "Strict rules of golf? to Bond.
