Blackwolf Run in Wisconson?

Anyone play it and is it a worthy Golf trip destination?

My traveling foursome (two from Texas, two from various parts of Illinois) are looking into playing at Kohler in September maybe. I'd love to get someone's opinion of the four courses at Blackwolf run as they are rated highly by Golf Digest but mixed reviews from those on the internet. Thanks

I have not played the 4th and newest course, but I played Both Black Wolf Run courses and the Whistling Straits Course, all three are fantastic courses, and if you are going to be there, well worth playing.

I have played both courses at Blackwolf (River and Meadow Valleys) and think they are fantastic. The River Course may be one of the most dramatic,beautiful, and demanding courses you will ever play. Meadow Valleys is more of the same.

 

Whistling Straights (Straights Course) is a course people love or hate. There seems to be no in-between. It is very typically Pete Dye with visual intimidation everywhere. I have not played the newer Irish course, but have heard good things about it, too.

 

There is also a new course in the area called The Bull at Pinehurst Farms. It is a Nicklaus design and getting rave reviews.

 

One thing about the American Club resort you should know, everything (golf, food, accomodations) is first class, but VERY PRICEY. It is an incredible experience, but bring your checkbook.

I have played both the River and Meadow courses at Blackwolf Run and both are excellent, and a tough test for any golfer. I have not played Whistling Straits, but I have some friends in Wisconsin who have and rave about it, both the quality and the fact that it can humble you. Based on what I have seen and been told the Irish course will be no less.
