which hybrid is right for me?

after a weekend where everything went right for me except for my 3 iron (22*), i've decided i want to get a hybrid. my playing partners constantly suggest i get one, and i guess the time is right. i'm an average golfer with a 16 handicap, and I'm looking for a hybrid that looks/plays like a fairway wood as opposed to those based off of irons. any help you could give would be greatly appreciated, as well as

Try the Cleveland Halo 22 loft. After getting this club I removed the 3 iron from my bag. Personally, I like it. I've tried others but this was best suited for my game. I can hit the ball very straight with this club and that's what I was looking for.

I agree with Rodogolf that the cleveland halo is a great hybrid! Others you might like to consider are the nike slingshot (I prefer the tour), Taylor Made Dual, and the one that probably plays most like a fairway wood is the new Nickent 3DX DC utility wood. They make a 21* I believe that is a 7 wood model but the shaft is shorter then a traditional 7 wood. Also they are now avaliable with a UST V2 hybrid shaft which is a big plus! Remember to try out a bunch of different ones though because what works for me might not work for anyone else use what you hit best!

If hybrids are the dark side, then 460 cc drivers, cavity back irons, and moi putters are the dark side as well. If it helps you play better golf, get one. The hybrids I've hit are so easy to use.

hardly the dark side, i just play with some other people who are vehemently against it. thanks for the info guys, keep it coming. does the halo come in a steel shaft or only in graphite, if so what shaft does it have and would you recommend stiff or regular for a 95-105 ss.

Ever'body's going to have differing opinions on this . . . might be good reason why there are so many OEM's making hybrids. Plus hybrids tend to polarize players more than any other club (except for maybe putters, drivers, fairways, irons, and wedges :) ), so you'll definitely want to try everything you have access to before you commit. That said. . . .

 

I hugely recommend the Sonartec Md. I'm a 15ish capper and have a reasonably repeatable swing (putts are friggin' killing me right now, but my gir's are up). I demo'd or bought many hybrids over the last couple years and would always go back to the 2 iron (quick caveat--my range was irons-only, so I got LOTS of long iron practice and came to rely on the 2 iron more than my 3, 5, or driver, only in the past year have I began to trust my woods again). The Md is the first hybrid that I've found to be better than my 2 irons. The shorter shaft makes it infinitely controllable and I have found it not to be either draw or fade biased. For me the iRod shaft seems to work, but there are several shaft choices available depending on your swing and preferred ball flight. The only other hybrid I was curious in was the FT-3 hybrid (none available to demo lefty here), but now I have zero interest. The Sonartec is just solid. :smilie_cally:

 

But again, definitely something you'd want to try before you buy. Not everyone likes to make the game easier with a club that gives you as many options as the Md. But I'm admittedly biased.

More iron-like, but if you are used to hitting long irons, they might be a better fit. I too only crossed over to the dark side recently and have two of these in my bag. FOr the hybrids, the HALO with a DG steel shaft (Special order) is awesome!!

 

I hve the Bridgestone J33 hybrid. The thing rocks. Give that one a look. Its a meaty hybrid that looks like a combo of what you are looking for. They are hard to find, but go take a look.

I thought the whole Hybrids are for women & senior thing had faded, guess not. Anyone who thinks there is more honor in hitting low irons is delusional. Hybrids rule & they are in countless bags on every tour now. I recommend the G5, Cally Fusion, and Cleveland Halo. Played all, all are great.

The Rescue Dual TP is definately the hottest, longest, straightest hybrid i've ever hit. After failing with the halo, rescue mid, nickent DC, and the heavenwood, i finally put an order in for the rescuie dual tp and will NEVER look back.

I've hit a few over the last couple of seasons. My favorite thus far are the Nickent 3dx dc. They have the Utility wood version and the ironwood version. The utility wood is stupid easy to hit straight and get airborn. Nickent also has a lot of shaft options available to achieve the ballflight you're after. The Utility woods I found hit the ball very high, and I'm not a real high ball hitter. The 5W/19º probably plays most like a 3 iron. Even the stock SR2 shaft isn't too shabby in the utility wood. Stiff flex should work fine if you are around 100 MPH SS.

 

I was shocked how easy the Nickents were to hit straight. The tungsten weighting really works, and the heads have a cool "thwack" sensation at impact. They're quite long too. I play the irowood 20º with the NV stiff and love it. I can often times outdrive my playing partners with it on short par 4's when they use driver.

 

Have a Rescue Dual, but it's been in the bag of shame ever since the Nickent came to my doorstep.

Does anyone have any experience with the T7 dual screw attack hybrids?

I just ordered the 22 and 25 degree because of too many mishits with my 4i and 5i.

Since they cost 1/6 the price of the taylormade dual screw hybrids, I am

suspicious of them.
