Red Tail Review 9/22/2010

I am going to keep this real brief. The course is in THE best shape I have ever seen it in and possibly some of the best conditions I have ever seen on a public course in New England!

There are some great holes there and I found it pretty straightforward for a first-time play. Pace of play was good when I went and I really liked the par 3's. My only bad memory is of 18. I just don't think it's a well constructed hole. There's plenty of risks with not much reward.

one of mt favorite courses. The harvard area has a few gems there.

Red Tail is the best in the Harvard area, though I cooled off a bit on playing it due to an abundance of leagues leading to crowded play. Before the leagues, I could get in at least 14, sometimes 18 holes going out at 5pm. The last few times I went it was more like 10 - 12 holes. Still a beautiful course though. Very good drainage so expect to see it in good condition early in the season. Also a very friendly staff.

I played Red Tail a few days ago, course is already in good shape for the season. The speed of the greens were a little inconsistent, but I'll accept that in April. I wish their driving range was a little nicer, the mats that they have you hit off of have seen better days as have the range balls. That's the only bad thing about that place, but I only go out there to play rounds, not practice, so it's ok for me.

The driving range is a bit ragged, though they do switch to grass tees some time in May or early June for the rest of the summer. It's not bad at that point and I do like the fact that the balls are waiting for you on the range (no tokens).
