New Ping Rapture 460cc Composite Driver Pics!

Recommended Posts

There are tons of these on the LPGA in use now. Christie Kerr just won the John Q. Hammonds Tulsa stop with a Rapture driver (unpaid non Ping staff )... heard they fly long and straight... She switched to it about a month ago.

I was caddying at the Ladies English Open on the Ladies European Tour last week and I noticed a few of these around there. In particular, Ludivine Kreutz (FRA) and Linda Wessberg (SWE) had them. Linda won her first LET title at the Wales Ladies Championship of Europe using it earlier in the year

Dougie...thanks for that info from "the other side of the sea"! It's always interesting to hear about the LET in detail since we don't get much coverage in the USA...

Was playing a TM R540XD with a Speeder 652 that I was pretty happy with. In fact, I had been playing TM drivers for the past 4 years. Never saw myself as a Ping person, but that has now changed.

Went to a Ping demo day at my friend's CC and got to hit the 10.5 with all their various shafts and get Trackman numbers for each. For my swing, the Diamana Blue was the perfect shaft. High launch (13.5*) and low spin (2500rpm). The V2 Proto had a higher launch but way too much spin (3800rpm).

My carry distance increased from 245yds with the R540XD to 270yds with the Rapture. Swing speed was the same with both setups (103-105mph). The increase in carry was unreal. You could just see the ball hang in the air longer with the Rapture. It is amazing what the right shaft/head combo can do. :drinks:

Not a big fan of the graphics on the head, but at least the head shape and setup is appealing. The feel is also very good. I have friends who have the G5 and I didn't care for the feel. The Rapture is the most solid feeling club since my old R510 Tour and it will be in the bag for a while.

I did cut down the shaft to play at 44.5" and put in some hosel weight to keep the swingweight at D-3.

Old stuff:
1962 Tommy Armour AT2W Driver   1953 Macgregor M65W EOM 3 wood   1978 H&B PowerBilt Citation 4 wood
1984 Ben Hogan Apex PC 2-E   1968 Wilson Dual Wedge
1964 Acushnet O-SET M6S Bullseye Putter

New stuff
Cobra ZL 10.5 driver (Matrix HD6 s-flex)  Titleist TSR2 18* fairway wood (Matrix Code-8 s-flex)   Adams A2P 20* hybrid (Rombax 8D07HB s-flex)
Titleist 716 MB irons 4-PW (Apex 4 soft-stepped)    Callaway Mack Daddy wedges 52, 56, 60 (DG S200)
Odyssey ProType 9 putter

I received mine the other day. Forgot I ordered it shorter (45") but didn't do anything on the SW, so it came C8! Added some lead tape after hitting it, so I don't know how the new weight feels, but first impressions were pretty much everything I was looking for in a driver... super straight, higher trajectory w/ no ballooning, long enough. I've hit only about 25 balls on the range, I hope to get some course time in on Friday. Did not try it before ordering but based on a G5 demo I had been using and what I heard about the rapture I ended up going with a 10.5 with VS Proto 65 X. All I can say is that I'm finally done scouring the internet for a good driver setup: I have found it.

That sounds great. Thanks for the review. Cut it down and added weight huh? Sounds like a lot of us will be adding some lead tape to get the SW up on these.

I just bought one. The salesman said I was "probably" the first one in Wisconsin to own one since they just got them in.

I spent all afternoon on their launch monitor trying every new driver they had with every shaft combination I could find. Most were grouped in a "bunch". This one stood head and shoulders above all the others.

I can't begin to describe how amazing this club is to hit so I could only STRONGLY recommend you try one.

I got a 9* with stiff Aldila NVS shaft. What a sweet setup this is. No lead tape or length changes needed. This was 20 yards farther carry then the "group" of other drivers tested. My swing speed is 95-105 mph (faster after a few swings) but I load the shaft hard at the start of my downswing because it is a short backswing. I got 14-16* launch angle, 160-165 mph ball speed and can't remember the spin but all drives fell in a 260-280 carry distance straight down the middle. This is the real deal. A true "hammer"!!

The only time the "web" on the crown shows is when bright light hits it like a camera flash. It's not distracting at all and is a "clear" crown where you see through it (to the web like "frame") only with bright light close to the head. Here also is my NVS 65 S shaft in it.

  • 2 months later...

I picked up the Ping Rapture this week. To bad we have all of this snow in Denver right now.

I was going to get a TM R7 460 and got on the launch monitor to checkout lofts and shafts. Toward the end I figured I would hit the Rapture. WOW! I had a more consistant launch angle, better carry and better distance with the Rapture than I did with the R7 460. I also like the feel of the club/shaft better than I did the others I tried besides the R7. That would include the Callaway FT-3 and Ping G5. I ended up going with the stock TFC 909D stiff shaft becuase of the higher lanch angle. I tend to hit a lower ball than most.

I can't wait to get out and put this to the full test.
