Swingweight and Shot shape

Is there a correlation between the above

Is there a correlation between swingweight and shot shape (draw/fade), particularly in the driver? For example, if I want to hit a draw more easily do I reduce or increase the swingweight?

I rotate two drivers, both 983K , both 9.5* loft and D-3 swingweight.

One is 45" and has a t** Fuji stiff graphite shaft, the other is 44" and has a DG steel shaft.

 

I draw the 44" and hit the 45" more or less straight.

 

My answer to your question is that length of shaft has more to do with shot shape than does swingweight.

 

Another comparison is that I formerly played Eye 2+ irons with Rifle shafts and C-9 swingweight. Now I play

Eye 2+ irons with DG shafts and D-3 swingweight. For both these sets my shot shape is the same draw.

oh crap - I always thought the internal weight of the driver had more to do with it....

 

 

I think the heavier swingweight allows you to feel the head more throughout the swing. More weight on the end of a whip.

 

If the swingweight is fairly heavy on the end of a lightweight shaft, I can see where it would weaken flex just a tad and could make the tip a bit weaker causing more of a draw (or hook). Just a guess.

In my very first iron fitting (about a decade ago), I went in thinking my irons were too upright (draws and hooks), but ended up bending them 3* upright from where they were...and cutting them all down 1". Turns out the clubs I had purchased earlier that year from a golf course pro shop had been custom-ordered @ 1.5" long for someone else (of course nobody told me that when I bought them, and apparently I wasn't good enough to tell the difference for myself).

 

Based on that experience, for me, if the swingweight (or overall weight) is WAY TOO high (in my case, 9 swingweight points higher than standard), then it can affect swingplane to the point that you send balls right to left.
