I wonder why people make big deal out of staff bag. I've never judged people, golfers, by their golf bags because bag is bag. It just a tool.

Yes I do have a staff and stand bag. Just my 2 cents.

Exactly! Where did this mentality come from where you get ragged on for having a staff bag? I mean...I know it exists..Im just asking why? What difference does it make? And how is a staff bag any different from any other piece of golf equipment? Are blades only for pros? How about ProV1x balls? What if I have a tour issue shaft in my driver? Or what if I get my initials stamped all over my wedges? And even better yet...what if I have all that stuff in a staff bag and play off 18? Do I get ragged on only about the bag but everything else is cool? If you're telling me that a non pro shouldnt use a staff bag, then im telling you a non pro shouldnt be using zero offset blades. The whole thing is just ridiculous when you think about it.

In the 30 rounds I've played so far this year, I have yet to even notice the bag of anyone in my foursome. They could have been made of cardboard for all I knew. Even if I did notice it at the time, I forgot about it the minute I walked off the course. Last time I checked, I have a few more things to focus on than the other guy's stuff...including my friends' gear.

Unless a bag is vintage (like a MacGregor or Hogan), I don't think I would even ask about it. I did ask someone how they liked their Titleist bag since it was the next model year after mine, but I cannot remember whether this guy was a better or worse golfer than me.

As a caddie growing up and playing at the local munis, I saw every combination of good golfer with nice bag, good golfer with crappy bag, terrible golfer with nice bag, and awful golfer with thrift-shop-reject bag. Never affected me...

Buy whatever bag you want, and play with it. If you cannot ignore the thought of "this bag is too much for me", then make it a present to yourself -- "I will buy bag XXXX when I break 80 or 90 or 100." Then, at least you have a story.

I don't understand why anyone would be checking out another guy's sack anyway.

Until I came on here I never realised how many people are concerned about how a guy looks , what he plays, or has with him on the course. I never pay attention to another person on the course unless he isn't showing proper etiquette.
I never know when someone comments on my stuff at the course if they are being sarcastic or not. I could care less what they think so I just reply now I am trying to be the biggest poser out here. Now if they are really interested in something I have of course I will talk to them.
For me it's about having fun with golf. Part of my fun is buying what I want golf related. When buying a staff it made me happy. The thought never crossed my mind if I got one other people on the course will see it and think I am good. It fit my needs at the time. Whatever I buy, it is because I want it, not necessarily need it and never to impress others.

How about a compromise? Get the tour bag, but don't have your name stitched into it. Seriously, I had a staff bag for years and it was great. It was the only thing that was big enough to haul all the crap I had around. Swapped it out when I started walking more (damn, it was a beast!).You won't look like a poser anymore than the guy on the tee w. the new "SuperLeft" or Titleist blades. Most people keep equipment that is ill-suited to them. Might as well look good doing it!

If you don't mind me asking, what was your HC and did your buddies give you a hard time? Just wondering.

At the time, I was about a three handicap. My buddies didn't give me a hard time because real people don't care about s*** like this. I totally reject the socially constructed notion of status "symbols" in golf and in real life. Do what you want, be who you want. The staff bags you buy online or in stores are still different from the ones the pros have, anyway.

I have only been playing golf for about a year now and i got a staff bag 7 months ago.Honestly i never thought about how it would be percieved i was at edwinn watts to get some golf balls and,i saw a Wilson Staff staff bag and the next thing i remember i was loading that beauty in my van.I have not thought nothing else about it till i read this thread and, nobody at my club has mentioned a word about it to me.Now maybe they talk about it behind my back but,i do not care in the least. All i know is my bag looks SWEET and,i can get clubs out of it so much easier than my previous bag and, isnt that what a golf bag is for....CONVENIENCE.And if it looks really good too then thats just a bonus,go a head and get it man if thats what you want who cares what other people think let them worry bout their own bag.
