What would your perfect wedge be/look like?

This should be an interesting thread :)
Hi I was wondering what your thoughts would be on the perfect wedge. How would it look? oil can gunmetal black oxide vintage etc. Anyone like chrome or satin chrome? Plain back or busy? Your initials or name stamped?

My personal perfect wedge would be the vintage callaway finish with a slightly more square toe with the face and grooves milled perfectly.

I love the P grind on the X-tour so i would have that in my dream 52 and 60.

Would you like to see a 62*? Maybe a 63*? Etc.

I am really getting into wedges starting to collect them etc.

What would your favorite/perfect wedge be?

The T35 does look like a great wedge.

Would your perfect wedge allow you to get the grind done ala scratch golf?

Would you want your name on the wedge or would you not want it as it would hurt resale?

Would you like the X-tour better without the big X logo or would you have preferred it was sandblasted on instead of stamped/milled?

Shape of the RAC wedges. Y-Grooves. P Grind on the 60. Trailing edge grind on the 56. Small cavity in the back like the Ping wedges. They would have a much lower COG than the current RACS to fly higher.

Interesting. Would you want the trailing edge grind even though it would spec the same bounce it would have less area to bounce with due to the trailing edge being ground?

The cavity is a cool idea because no matter what i value forgiveness over feel. I can wear a wedge out with a quarter sized crater as much as the next guy but every once in a while I will think about a chili-dog during the backswing or something and catch one out on the toe 1/2" :drinks:

60 degree=Vokey Prototype, shaped like Cleveland CG10, spin milled face, 3x Black Oxide, L grind

56 degree=Vokey Prototype, shaped like Cleveland CG10, grooves cut to max USGA width and depth, face not spin milled, Raw finish, P grind

52 degree=Vokey prototype, 200 series shape, but grind down the "high toe" a little, grooves cut to max USGA width and depth, not spin milled, 3x Black Oxide, slight radius grind

Here's my dream wedge:

* Nice soft forged metal that doesn't collect dings and dents.

* Super-sharp grooves

* Plenty of griding on the heel. I like a wedge that I can open up, and be more flexible.

* Milled face - love that! (like the spin-milled Vokeys)

* Nice clean design (like a Mizuno MP series)

* Stampings like Mizuno with Loft-Bounce (example: 56-10)

* Simple brand stamping (again, like Mizuno)

* Delete the stamping on the sole. All it does in a wedge is get encrusted with dirt and grime anyway.

* BlackSatin finish that does NOT WEAR OFF. I love the black-satin finish of many manufacturers, but don't like the way they look when worn.

This Mizuno MP in the picture is pretty much one of the prettiest and best wedges I've owned. I can't imagine changing much, except for the non-wearing black/nickel type finish, and a milled face.

My dream wedges:

Forged TaylorMade rac TP wedges

Black finish just like retails

No bounce stamp like the one found on retails

"TaylorMade" on the hosel where the bounce stamp usually is (like the MB TP's :drinks: )

"Forged" on the back like MB TP's

Tour Y-Cutters and deep face milling like Tour Puglielli's

54* wedge: Big sole w/o any specific grind, High bounce (like 12*)

60* wedge: I don't know if this is possible, but a sole with really high bounce when the club is square to slightly open for full shots and bunker shots, and then no bounce when the club is laid wide open for pitches and flop shots

That is a great idea w/ the grind. It seems like there is a general consensus that the face needs to be milled the finish should be dark and the back should be clean. Any interest in custom initials or anything like that or would you rather not have the custom stamp for resale purposes?

Square leading edge like the X-tour? Would you want a shorter hosel so you can have a bigger muscle behind the ball on the wedge?

I'm waiting to hear from taylormadefan I would have thought he would be in here already :drinks:

My spider sense was tingling for a reason. . . :drinks:

I liek this thread a lot, it's neat to see how different people look for different things in wedges.

I only carry a 54 and 60, so I need them to do quite a few jobs.

I REALLY like the Sonartec T-35, it's pretty perfect. I love the dull satin finish, clean graphics, thin top line, and sole grind. The face is milled, and the grooves are sharp. The club lays flat when open, and still has enough bounce so it doesn't dig on full shots and square faced I like to play around greens. Great wedge, can't really think of any improvements on it. :)

I think one big thing that hasn't been mentione here is the most important reason for milling wedge faces. Although the mill marks are neat looking and marginally add spin, they're usually gone after a month or so of play and practice. The real benefit to a milled face is the fact that it produces a PERFECTLY FLAT face which has big benefits for accuracy.

Sorry to bring back an old thread but i am having my wedges designed and built/grinded as I type this.

I am doing Don Wood design. 54 and 58 degree. 54 is 14* bounce, 58 is 7* bounce.

54*-M-grinds on both heel and toe side. P-grind with a slight t-grind to have a little more fun. Top-line shaved so it is thinner. All this grinding I want 10* of bounce when i get done and have a swing weight of D-5.

58*-M-grinds on both the heel and toe side. Big t-grind. Top-line shaved so it is thinner. Top-line shaved so it is thinner. All this grinding I want 5* of bounce when i get done and have a swing weight of D-7.

These wedges are starting out as raw forgings. They are going to be sweet. I will have pics when i am done.
