HOUSTON WRXER'S POST HERE!

That's a 2,000+ mile round trip, Sam....none too cheap with today's pump prices. The "exciting" part of the drive is Houston-to-Dallas, then it gets really boring7.gif. And, if your car breaks down outside of the yellow city (Amarillo) it may be weeks before we find you ;) ..........where men are men and sheep are scared. :idhitit:

You'd probably save money flying to Denver and renting a compact-----might save your manhood, as well. The drive doesn't get interesting until Invesco Field, anyway.

The mighty Corolla gets 40 on the highway plus I am not having to pay for the gas on the return portion. Besides I am not going anywhere near Dallas, later I will detail my adventure.

ok, she's at the spa now.....bad news, i didn't take any pictures.

anyways, here we go....i walk in and guess what's the first thing i see next to the entrance window.....my exact same white ping hoofer extreme with the hot stix logo!! i knew this was going to be a great day with the taste they have!

anyways, the fitter started out by measuring swingweight, length, loft, lie, frequency of all my irons and wedges. hit them and he got them all back to spec. then we moved onto the driver.....ended up with something totally opposite of what i would have ever thought of getting, but #'s don't lie! guess what todd? it's an 8.5 905r with rombax or diamana red. it's no joke, they do push the top of the line shafts, but it's always up to you what you get. anyways, worst driver was my 10.5 ft-3, too high launch and too much spin - 17* launch with 3500 spin. 905r with the 14* launch with 2500 spin and 10-20 more yards....you better watch out rick, now i'm only 30 yards behind you!!!

anyways, next comes the most amazing thing - putter fitting. they got cameras all over watching every aspect of your putting, imagine that swing vision when pros are hitting the driver, it's like that for your putter. you see all the backspin and stuff. he changed lie and loft and roll is a ton better, now whether or not i can aim right is another story. whatever it was - i have less backspin now. anyways, i still made the same # of putts both ways, so go figure. by this time, i was so exhausted. anyways, it was probably the most informative golf fitting i have ever done or seen. i had him fit me for the new x-tours so that when they come out, everything is ready to go. they keep everything on file - what frequency, length, swingweight, loft, lie, etc. you work best with, so all i have to do is send them stuff and tell them to make it to my specs and they know exactly what to do.

dammit, i have to sell EVERYTHING in my bag!

last, but not least, and no laughing guys, i frequency out to something like a 4.5 in the irons and 3 something in the driver and wedges around 4.3. kinda ashamed, but you gotta live with what you have!

my wife is living it up right now, $325 for a 90-minute spa treatment, she called and said she's going to stay until it closes, there were waterfalls everywhere....and i have to pay $50 just to use it, forget that. i'm sitting here on the computer trying to put together my brand new bag!

anwyays, the whole thing was way better than i expected, and i expected alot. if you're ever here, come check it out. let me know too, b/c i want to join you and have an excuse to come again

anyways, there's alot more to say and more details, but i've got to shop right now guys!

I always felt you hit your driver too high for your carry, but I'm shocked you could move to a high spin driver head with a high spin shaft (red board) and get such better numbers.....just goes to show you how much more loft affects spin versus head/shaft. What brand of launch monitor did they use?

Does your wife know you will be moving next door to HotStix, yet??? :P

Exactly what I thought. Dropping 2 degrees in loft is a HUGE change, so I'm not suprised your spin numbers improved. Sad thing is, your "bad" number of 3500 would be an improvement for me on most days.

Glad to hear the fitting went well. You gonna sell the Miura CB's now, too? :idhitit: I still have yet to pull the trigger on a set, so make me an offer I can't refuse.

I plan on playing hole in the wall golf courses along the way.

I would not consider it a hole in the wall golf course, but I would definitely plan on stopping in Lubbock and playing the Texas Tech Rawls Course, I am up here visiting the Grandparents with the little one and played there yesterday. Unbelievable that it is impossible to find a level lie anywhere on a course in Lubbock, they moved a lot of dirt to build it!

I thought about going up through Lubbock to play it, that's a Tom Doak design isn't it?

Yes it is.

Rick I must stop right here and ask why you want to get rid of your Hogans? You have Hogan Apex, one of if not the greatest set of clubs ever made with your fancy Tour Concept shafts and you would get rid of them! I know the Chu Specials are very nice and all of us have though about stealing them but I am sickened that you would consider dropping the Hogans.

I was actually tooling around Golf Galaxy the other day and looked at the new Apex and I really want to order a set. They look like a work of art as opposed to a golf club, they really make the J33 Combos look like some kind of ugly shovel.

You wanna buy some 98 Apex heads in pretty decent shape? ;) I just don't play or practice nearly as much as I used to, and want something a little easier to hit. I'm keeping the TCs, though.

I was mostly giving Tony a hard time since he said he's going to have to get rid of everything (I'm sure he meant his new Cally stuff). In other words, just another Friday in the Chu house :idhitit: . Not only do I doubt he'll get rid of them, I HIGHLY doubt I could afford them, even used.

Anyone know of a shop in town that *may* have a set of Tour Stage MR-23 CBs? I am really considering buying a set from a member here, but want to see them in person if I can. I was thinking Strictly Golf would be my best bet. Tuesday I'm going on an iron pilgrimage. Hopefully taking the plunge by the end of the week.... ;) Man I love indecision. :idhitit:

Any suggestions

you have the 3 iron?

Of course I do sir.

to make things interesting for you, my miuras will be going up for sale soon b/c the shafts (according to hot stix) are too stiff for my girly swing. i've already placed orders for new stuff with my new senior flex shafts.

Damn I would hate to see what they tell me to play.

The hardest question in the Universe !

Is there a 3 wood made that I cannot hook?

My recent 3 woods for your enjoyment :

TM R7 Steel, 14 gram weight on toe/ Grafalloy TC shaft (BTW,nice shaft)

Adams RPM Tour 14.5/ VS Proto 80X

Cally X-Tour 15* / Fuji 869, VS Proto 80, Accra Tour HF M5

TM 200 Tour "Duffy" / Fuji 757

Cally Old School Duece / fuji 869

And on and on and on .............

Could the problem be my swing? I would assume so, but it is what i have. :idhitit:

Anyone else notice how many "outings" there are on the other site?

The Bigdipper must really have his panties in a wad.

BTW, I am still holding out for my "free" Ping tour driver from the Bigdog driver test as promised.
