My Stats! OMG!

Recommended Posts

Stats DO Help A Lot....Check Out Mine For Today And Help Me Out
Fairways hit: 42.86%
Greens In Regulation: 11.22% (Thats good for me, but my irons are getting WAYYYY better)
Sand Saves: 25%
Inside 50 Yards: Avg. Of 3.11 Shots
Putts: 36, 4 3 Putts, 2.06 Per Hole

This Is Obviously Where I Need To Work, Right???? Or Wrong

This Is Typical Of My Short Game Lately And It's Usually Just Lack Of Confidence, The Greens Here Are Like LIGHTNING! and it sure does ZAP your confidence......

I'm Gonna Spend 2 Hrs Putting Tomorrow,
1 1/2 Hours Around The Greens

And I'll see if my shortgame is any good then by playing a 14 hole junior/senior competition! :drinks:

Yep, short game, short game, short game. You'll really see a big drop in our scores when you can get that inside 50 yards number down to 2-2.5 shots a round. Good luck, hope they start rolling in. Don't leave the green until you make 20 3 footers in a row. It'll really give you a lot of confidence when you have those short par saves.

Agreed, short game is the BEST way to improve your stats.

I was reading an article in an old golf digest, and the teacher suggested counting greens and putts only, and not counting fairways.

By the formula he used, hitting 8 greens and needing 32 putts you should shoot 79. I would focus on hitting more greens, and getting up and down. The best of players can get up and down from everywhere.

i played 9 holes yesterday and the played a game where the object is to miss every green so it helps with getting up and down. I shot 4 over but had 2 chip ins and hit two greens by accident. When i hit the greens it was a 1 shot penalty. it was quite cool. but i rarely struck it bad coz the pressure of hittin the green was off.

But with those stats you really need to start hitting the greens i would suggest to play a few rounds where ypou dont go for the pin at all and just try to fire right in the heart of the green i reckon your scores would drop.

I wouldnt be too worried about you shortgame if your only hitting 11% of your fairways. That is probably first and foremost the main reason that you totals on the shortgame are much higher because you put alot more pressure on yourself to get up and down 16 times a round.

I would work on your ball striking. fairways hit dont mean too much bc for most of us the courses we play dont have 4 inch deep rough. 11% of your greens sorry to say is terrible. that is why everything else looks bad. I am a very strong ball striker and average about 70% of my greens in regulation. which is the reson my putting total is usually aroun 30. when im under 30 putts in going to be going low every time.

MY DIAGNOSIS: WOrk on your swing and consistency because more greens hit will lead to lower scores and lower putting totals. but as always you short game should never be ignored i just dont think that for your purposes it is the most important problem to fix right now.

I think the real problem is 3.11 stroke average from 50 yards in. That means he is taking 4 strokes to get down more often than he is getting up and down.

That means more doubles and bogeys than pars, and that will hurt anyones score, taking 4 to get down from inside 50 yards.

Short game is definitely improtant; it's a great equalizer, especially if you're not hitting many greens. Only 2 greens every 18 hole round though, that definitely doesn't help your scores. On days where your short game is good, you'll shoot a good score, but if you're having trouble around the green and you have to get up and down 16 times each round, your scores are gonna go up.

Your 42 or so percent of fairways is decent; it's not amazing, but it's not bad, you probably shouldn't be too worried about that at all.

Your 11% of greens needs to be improved. Period. If it doesn't, then your rounds will be really inconsistent. Even if you bring that up to 33%-50% (6-9 GIR of 18), your scores will go down because you'll be making easier pars.

After that, short game short game short game. I need to practice that as well because my putting is mediocre and it's holding my game back. I'm about a 6-7 handicap (6.4 last time I checked), and putting is the weakest part of my game. However, I found something that's working for me around the greens. Try putting cross-handed (a.k.a. left hand low) on the practice green. If you do that, it forces you to use your shoulders more. If you can't get a feel for it, then just practice it and go back to your normal putting grip after and you'll have a more solid putting stroke. I putt cross-handed on short putts, or putts where line is more important than speed, because with this putting method, I hit my line MUCH more often and I' making a lot more putts. I still putt with a standard grip on long putts though. Experiment a bit because 36 putts per round shows a LOT of room for improvement. Even if you have 32 putts per round, thats 4 easy strokes. Take away those 4 3 putts and turn them into 2 putts. Good luck

Yeah, I suppose I was missing the greens by a little bit, then when i didn't put my pitch/chip within literally 3 feet or less i would get angry because I didn't believe I could sink anything longer than 5 feet, I'm gripping down 2'' on my putter now and it's helping a lot because my friend is gonna cut me a ping putter that is the length of my putter when gripped down 2''.

My main flaw lately is overswinging with the shaft pointing right which is causing that weak -20 yard push.

I recently made my swing more upright so i get way more height now

For the next few days I'll just concentrate on:

Shortening My Swing

Keeping My Head Down In My Swing

Bending Left Knee In Backswing (I'm swaying now)

Taking Divots More Often

Long Lag Putts (for when I leave it a good bit away)

15 Footers Or Less (for when I leave it that far away I'm going for it)

I'm also getting my driver soon, I've tried my friends one on the course before which means i'll be hitting 2-3 clubs less into the green (at the mo I'm teeing off with a 7w)
