Cape Cod

Just got back from my Cape Cod vacation, and I'll post a review on the course I played.

I had the choice of where to play on the Cape, and it came down to two courses in the town of Dennis: Dennis Highlands and Dennis Pines. I took a ride to each course the day before I planned on playing, to check out the course conditions (a real big factor on where I play when I travel). I decided between the two that Dennis Pines was not only in much better shape, but also a more difficult layout (slope of 135 from the tips) and much longer (7000 yards on the number) than Dennis Highlands.

I played after 2pm and went out for $10, since I had an adult with me. After 2 for adults over is $28, and the rate before 2 is $60. Designed in the 60s, it has the feel of an older style course, with every hole framed with tall pine trees. I imedately noticed after the first few holes, why the Pines is such a difficult course. Every hole is as tight as you can imagine, with just fairway, then a few yards of rough, then trees and forest. Basically, if you don't hit the fairway on this course, you need to punch out of trees to have a clear shot at the greens. I loved the combination of long par 4s, which when played from the tips, are 400, 419, 440, 492 410, 380, 412, 433, 363, and 418 yarders. The reason why I loved this variety is because it made me use every club in my bag for approach shots, not just a wedge from 100 yards and in as on most courses I play.

The conditioning was supurb that day, for the exception of very slow greens as a result of heavy rains the two days before. But you can be certain there is not a single brown spot on that course. Its a moderate walking course, with an easy front 9 to walk, and a much hillier back 9. But still, walking is the way to go on this course.

I grew up in the town of Dennis and have played the 2 tracks numerous times. If anyone has the time and wants a challenge play the Pines from the golds. They also play the MGA state 4 ball here.

It's an amazing course and one of the best deals around. It's $100 for a junior membership over the summer, and like the last post it's the home of the Mass. Golf Association 4 ball tournament. It's one of the best kept muni's you'll ever see.

This course looks wonderful. We're staying in the Cape Cod area in April when we come to visit Boston. Looks like I might have to try to get on when im there!!!

^make sure you play this one for sure. I'd play it again without even thinking about it, a real hidden treat.

I wish it wasn't so far away, the price for memberships(you get BOTH course) is ridiculously good, from what I'm told most likely be a member if it weren't so far away.
My friend has played there a bunch, and he says it's the best deal around by far.

Dennis Pines/Highlands and Bayberry Hills (Yarmouth, MA) are two of the best kept muni's I have every played!
