4 iron,, Really??

Does the sonartec md 23* really replace a 4 iron. I already have a 21* and it really does a 3 iron or a little more. I have a hard time believing that 2* and a quarter of an inich will make that big of a deal. What I am trying to find out is that I want to get rid of my 3 and 4 irons and replace them with two hybrids. Would a 21 and 23 sonartec combo be best or would a 19 and 23 combo be the way to go? Please help because this issue is mind blowing. Also, I only have access to a 21 for distance sakes, so I cannot demo them. Any thoughts are appreciated. :man_in_love:

I have a Sonartec MD 23* and it replaced both 3 and 4 irons. My longest iron is a 5. I think it is actually longer than the iron is supposidly replaced. I also have a 19* and it is supposed to take the place of a 2 iron. It replaced my 19* 5 wood.

I have a Md in 19, 23 and 25.

 

The 19 is bent to 20 with a 1/4 inch less in the shaft - more of a 2i in distance. I have a 23 bent to 22 and it gets 200-205 or so off the deck (I'm having Chip check it out because the 25 almost catches up with it). The 25 bent to 26 gets about 190-195. I have the stock IRod stiff shaft. I like it because it gets a nice trajectory (for me) and a soft feel.

 

In your case, I might bend the 21 to 22 to get more of a 3i and then purchase a 25 to get 4i distance and get 1/4 inch more in the shaft. The swingweight in these is only D1 so getting a little more or less in the shaft won't affect SW much.

 

If you want a great price and a custom setup, Chip is the man for Sonartec. Just some things to consider.

About 20-25 yards. The 23* is easily more managable. I really have to put a good swing on the 19*. The 19* is a monstor off the tee.

If you really want to replace a certain iron, make sure your hybrid is exactly the same length and maybe a little weaker lofted.

I play the 23* to replace my 4-iron and 21* to replace my 3-iron, but the distance gap is only 10-15 yards between the two, whereas the distance gap between my 5-iron and the 23* is more like 15-20 yards. The 21* is a little overlapping in my bag because if I muscle up on it I can hit it as far as my 5-wood. The long and the short is I'm considering dropping the 21* because there are just so few instances where I would prefer to hit it instead my 5-wood and I would rather carry an extra wedge than have overlap at the long range end of my set.
