Wedges
Not sure if this requires a full thread but I just need a quick opinion / question answered. My friend has the Sonartec T35 wedges and I really like them. How are the T15 wedges in comparison? I really like the look of the T35, are the T15 essentially the same with different lofts/finishes? I ask because a 58* fits my wedge set up better.

Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure about the T35s, but I have the T15 in raw finish in 54* (bent from 56*) and 60*. These wedges are very soft and the grooves are amazing. They kicked my TM TP wedges out the bag if that means anything.

To me the T35 and T15 look identical in shape, grind, etc., but I liked the idea of having the raw wedge T15. I gave both of mine a coke bath overnight and they have a nice patina, no glare at all.

P grind is like the X-tour PM grind which is a big cavity in the middle of the sole. The M grind is a heel toe trailing edge relief grind that creates basically a smaller contact area with the turf while maintaining the same bounce angle. The p grind will play with less overall bounce vs what is stated on teh club due to the concave nature of the sole. Totally different. I love the P grind but I have a sonartec here i am trying out. I also have 3 custom ground prototypes I am also trying out for another company.

The p grind is more versatile. The players grind though is a agressive M grind or V grind depending on your angle of attack at the ball etc. The V is like the M but with more bounce on the part of the sole that is left.

Personally my favorite lobs have a heel grind with a p grind. I am shipping out a spin milled tomorrow with a P and heel grind that taylormadefan received a pic of.

Anyways I have a lot of lob wedges to test :man_in_love: M V and trailing heel.

whew ;) too many letters and acronyms.

T35s are pure, really the best looking wedge I have seen at address in a long time. The 60* is so good, grind doesnt suit me though. Thank god for Scratch!

Is it difficult or possible to put a P grind on a Sonartec wedge? The main thing I'm looking for is a grind that allows me to open up the face without bouncing, but I don't want it to dig a ton when I play a 3/4 knockdown shot either.

Isn't the sole width on the Sonartec fairly narrow as compared to the Titleist or X Tour with the PM grind?

Therefore, I'd think it would be difficult to do and get similar performance.

My son has the 58/11 X Tour PM Grind, MD grooves - fairly impressive stick. Just get a little heel grind on that one if it works with your technique.

Yes, since the sole is so narrow, if you did put a P grind on it, there woudl be hardly any bounce on the club at all, even if it was opened or closed.

I think it's important to note that wedge grinds are a very PERSONAL thing. There's no best.

Play one that suits your game and conditions the best.

The Sonartec wedges have a multi grind sole that allows you to open the clubface without bouncing. The trailing edge and heel grind allow the club to sit flush on the ground when opening the face.

Exactamundo -

I thought the X Tour MD PM 58-11 played great as is - but I'm trying to convert to Utley who likes high bounce in the chipping arena.

My other 2 Lobbers have some heel and trailing edge grinding for my more traditional setup.

It's what fits you and the swing and conditions.

I had the honor of testing these wedges for Golf Magazine back in December and I loved these. I thought the look was very plain, but it was nice to see a wedge that wasn't over the top in its looks. As for the playability of these, well, all I can say is wow. The only reason I don't have a set of these in my bag is I thought the RAC TP's spun the ball a little better for me than the Sonartec's, but they have a real winner on their hands and I love the grind as it allows you to more options for different lies.
