I recently began training at next level and had my swing speed tested the average was 128. I need a shaft to have a low torque and low trajectory. Does anyone have advice on what is good. I have been golfing for a while, but never really got in to shafts.

Although, I agree that you likely need a low spin/launch shaft as the higher the ss the higher the initial launch and spin (all else being equal), I'd be more concerned about flex as you could easily overpower most shafts. At 128 you are probably in the tipped x range or XX. Depends on how you load the shaft. You might want to take a look at the Tour PX shafts (like a 8A4), Fujikura Z series (8Z08), Whiteboard etc..... I'd stay in the 80g and above weight class. Wouldn't even look at the torque numbers if I were you. Any low spin/launch option in the appropriate flex will have torque numbers that can handle your swing. Besides, as repeated in countless threads here, there is no standard method for measuring torque in shafts so one OEMs 3.2 is another's 2.5. Seriously, find a shaft that meets your launch characteristics, flex, and feel needs and you'll be all set.

Swing speed is an over-rated criteria for determining shaft stiffness. What is more important is where and how quickly one applies power, and what one does with all that speed. Many amateur golfers swing hard from the top to the point of impact and any follow through almost dies before it has begun, or is dragged around the body with poor weight transfer.

Two of my customers are father and son. The son outdrives dad by 40 yards and needs a stiff shaft. Dad is very wristy with a lot of lag and requires an X shaft.

There are so many variables that it is close to impossible to formulate a fitting formula. The best procedure is to hit a dozen or so test drivers and find out how the various shafts bend under your own swing and more importantly - what works best and feels comfortable and inspires confidence. The worst thing to do is to buy purely based on a shaft catalogue description. Ideally all test drivers should have the same head with the same loft. That way only shaft performance is adjudged. Fine tuning vis a vis the head can take place later on. (The shaft comprises 70 - 80% of the fitting process.) Only lay on money on equipment PROVED to you to be longer and better than what you presently use.

I was so impressed with the FineOneGolf T3 shaft that I stopped buying in anything else. It was just so far longer and straighter than anything else in the history of golf. I took it to last year's World Longrive Champs. and used it to build George Slupski's winner driver. He broke the Seniors' (over 45 years) Championship record in the semis. (in neutral conditions) with 405 yards. What more can one say.

You could try an 80x Aldila ProtoPype or a Diamana Whiteboard in 73x or 83x. The ProtoPype is pretty rare now, but you can order it here: http://www.golfshaftsnmore.com/Aldila-Protopype-Wood-Shaft-p/s-aprotopype-asterisk-.htm. Get a house of forged shaft, out of everything I have hit they are the best. Go to whiteshaft.com and check out their stuff and shoot Rob an email. He's really informative and will give you a great price on whatever you buy. I used a 50" HD prototype XX and my swingspeed is about the same as yours 126MPH. Being 5'8" this shaft was a little uncomfortable since it was so tall and im so short, but I was still able to hit 330+ yard drives with it. I took it back to him and he swapped it out for a totally different shaft for free. Their great to work with and all of their products and craftsmanship is top notch.

I'll be "that guy", the protopype is not that low/low. it just has a clever name. It is also so old that a 2011 model high 60/low 70 gram shaft (like the PX or Devotion) is much lower while also giving the club an overall lighter weight.

In my opinion you also have to look at what kind of release you have.. I swing in the 115-120 range but have a late release so it made it difficult for me to find a shaft that didn't have 4000 spin or higher. I actually just had a Protopype 80x installed, it measures at 43" so it is short but it knocked my spin down to the low 2300's. I only lost 5-7 yards of distance so i was extremely happy. Just depends on what you are trying to get out of it, long drive type shots or playable ones..
