Callaway X Tour vs. Titleist 735.CM Chrome

I've tried a search and have come up with nothing thus far...

I currently play the Callaway X Tours and am really happy with the way they perforn, however at times it seems they launch the ball too high, making it tough to hit knock downs and control the trajectory. Also, the 9 iron and pitching wedge are a little chunky looking and I am prone to pulling the ball with these irons. My question is, for anybody who has played both, can I expect a lower trajectory with the 735.CM's? Also, will I be sacrificing a lot of forgiveness going to the 735's, because the X tours are stupid easy to hit for a forged players cavity. I love Titleist's clubs, and have played their drivers since the 975D, and their wedges for 3 years now, so the ho in me wants to give the irons a shot.

Thanks in advance,

Matt

My 2-cents:

I did hit the X-Tours a bit higher than the 735s...but not enough to concern me. I think the X-Tours are also more forgiving as well. 735s have a thinner topline though. IMO, the X-Tours have a better feel.

If you can, try them both side by side. If you are hitting the X-Tours well and like them, I wouldn't change unless you're like me and just love equipment too much to stay with one thing!

Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

Resist the urge to change.I have owned 15 sets of forged "players clubs" in last 10 years,ie. MP30,Hogan Edge Pro,MX23,KZG II M,PTP,1025M,etc.IMHO the Xtours are the best all around players CB.No iron will be perfect.Although I have not played the 735 and they look very nice I feel they are similar to many of the aforementioned irons.Play the ball back a little to get it down.It works for me.

Matt,

The X-Tours are perfectly capable of hitting knockdowns. Some clubs are, of course, a little easier to knock down than others, but technique is key. If you are taking the same loft and trying to knock it down (like trying to knock down a PW) take more club and don't swing as hard. That goes for any set. :cheesy:

I did notice that you're pretty close to the "ALL TITLEIST" bag..... ;)

I do like my 735's quite a bit for what it's worth.... :man_in_love:

I might try the 735's just to fool around a bit, but I think I'll stick with the X Tours based on what everybody has said. Also, the season is nearing the end, so maybe it's better to wait until next spring to make any big decisions. Thanks for all the input, maybe I'll demo the 775's just to mix things up a bit, since I hear they are a little more forgiving than the 735's.

umm heres a thought. You want to try out titleist correct. Personally Im not a huge fan of the varying offsets etc of the 735. What you could try fora lower ballflight would be the 695cb. Theyre not extremly forgiving, but they arent impossibly to hit either. You could also try a l ower launching shaft for your irons if your attached to them.

I really don't mind the offset on the 735's, and I have considered the 695.CB's but right now I don't think I am a good enought ball striker to play those. I am about a 6 or 7 handicap and I love the forgiveness of the X Tours, but the lower CG relative to most forged cavity backs sometimes bothers me. As for the shafts, I don't know what steel shaft launches the ball much lower than the Dynamic Gold, maybe looking into S400's might be the trick. As of right now though, I am going to stick to the X Tours and see if I can work it out. One of the problems is that I don't play as much as I did in my high school days, but know that I finished summer school, I should have more time to play golf after work.
