Scottish golfers

Hi,

I'm Darran, I play off 7 and work in the famous golf town of Carnoustie home to The Open Championship in 2007, I'm interested to know why there are so many members on this site that use tour spec equipment, How this can improve their game I don't know but it seem like everyone wants to be Sergio Garcia or Tiger Woods. In a perfect world maybe this would happen over time but with so many golfers using equipment that is far to good for them how can they improve?

I myself play off a comfortable 7 and hope to improve but working in the golf industry for 6 years I know for sure that by playing with tipped shafts and X-flex shafts would only be a hinderence to ones golf if one was not swinging in excess of 120mph.

Are there any golfers out there who are normal and use normal equipment, it seems to me that this site is used for people that want to boast about whats in their bag.

Golf magazine's and television have a huge impact on golfers, but you shouldn't believe everything you read.

If there are any normal golfers out there I'd like to hear from you.

I would like to know whats the best driver/iron/wedge/putter you have used in the past year or so and please no tour spec shafts or tour spec heads, these are designed for the world most consistent players and not for your average joe.

Are there any normal bags out there?

Hi Carnoustie,

I'm from Scotland and I have a completely retail bag.

Just recently bought the R7 425 10.5* with the stock Fuji Re*Ax stiff shaft. Previously I owned a TM 580XD 10.5* with Purple Ice 85g stiff shaft.

Ping G5 4+5 irons, Ping i5 6-UW with stock CS Lite Regular shafts.

I have a TM Rac Black TP 54/10 sand wedge (Even though its a TP its not really Tour Issue)

Also have an auld Dynacraft Flying D Series 60/6 lob wedge with DG S300 shaft.

My putter is a Scotty Cameron Newport 2 Studio Stainless (With a GolfWrx cover)

My bag is an Izzo Spirit 3.5lbs with Izzo Swivel double strap.

My h/cap has dropped to 11 (neck and shoulder injury, just had 2nd level arterial discectomy and fusion last Friday) this year but I previously got down to 9 with an all retail bag.

I guess it would be good to get some Tour Issue stuff as long as it fit my swing.

I think that a lot of the single digit h/cap players like to buy tour issue drivers is because the face angle is either open or dead square compared to retail which are usually closed 1 or 2 degrees and the tour issue dont have a heel biased hot melt/weight in the head.

Plus there is the uniqueness of it as well.

Bottom line, if you can afford it and have the ability to play it then its all good.

This is a great post. I think this is a great site but what I can't understand is the obsession with distance on the board. Everybody seems to have Tiger-like swingspeeds, X-Flex shafts tipped 2" and hit 7 irons 200 yards. This doesn't impress me. I don't care how far you hit it that has very little to do with scoring ability. I wish the obsession could be curbed and maybe others would realise that the game is all about getting the ball in the hole in the least number of strokes and not hitting 300+ yard drives.
