TaylorMade MB Irons

Never been a TM guy buy I Hit the MBs today at a demo day. Sweet club indeed. I have always been a SGI or GI guy (mostly Cally and Ping) but these really are easy to hit and soooooo easy to work. I ended up ordering the MCs only because they are a bit more forgiving than the MB (although just as long). I didn't realize what I have been missing by not playing a forged club. There is nothing quite like a pure forged iron shot. If you are in the market for new irons you owe it to yourself to check these out.

I am sure you will enjoy them. I am going to order MC 3-5 iron.

I just put the order in for a 6-PW. Can't wait for them to get here. I wanted to put in a DG Spinner in the PW to match my wedges but the TM rep told me that you couldnt install either the spinner shaft or the Hi-Rev in these clubs. Thought that that was kind of strange. Ended up staying with the stock R300s
[/quote]

Doesn't make sense. MB's are .355 taper tip shaft which is what DG and DG spinners are. Better check fast as you should be able to do this.

Taylormade does not offer the DG spinner. And they do not put the KBS Hi-Rev into the MB. If you choose to do it after market is is possible as they are the same tip size.

I believe you but that makes as much sense as I couldn't get DG SL X100's in Mizuno MP 68's but they stock S300's.

So weird. The TM rep that I ordered the PW from just said that the spinner and hi-rev wouldn't fit the head. Other than tip size would there be any other factor that would make a shaft not fit a head?
The rep even called the manufacturer where they were putting together my clubs and they told him the shafts would not fit. They are going to have to build my set as well because they said that no one stocks the MBs with a regular flex shaft. They only stock the MBs with stiff shafts

It is going to suck if I find out that the spinners actually can be installed in the PW. Waste of time and money

Got mine (3-PW w/ PX 6.0) on Friday. Went out to the range immediately and played 18 yesterday. Love these clubs. Shot 75 with them the first round (also was using a new putter, with a few more normally made putts it could have been 70-71).

Coming from the r7 TP's w/ S300, the MB's are definitely a change. Haven't quite figured out if they are a couple yards longer, the same, or a couple yards shorter (the lofts are one degree weaker on the MB's and the 6.0 is a little stiffer) but, regardless, they feel great and are easy to control. I haven't quite adjusted completely to them but I suspect they will be equal to or longer than the r7 TP's after a few rounds.

I also need to get used to the feedback - my r7 TP's made everything feel like a "good" strike, the MB's definitely don't but the results are fine. I had 180 pin / 190 back (174 to clear front bunker to fringe) yesterday and that's a normal 6i for me (carry about 175-78). I hit the ball and immediately thought I hit it in the front of that bunker because I didn't catch it solidly according to the feel, looked up and it looked okay, ended up on the back fringe.

One thing about the long irons - I suggest that anyone thinking about the MB's at least try hitting the 3-5 irons. They look visually intimidating (especially the 3 iron) but I was pleasantly surprised at how easy they were to hit. I wouldn't even think about going MC in the 5 iron.

Hey guys i am looking to get a set of the TM Mbs. I would like your opinion on a couple of things. Currently hitting R7 Tp's. with 6.0 flighted rifles. 0 handicap.

I hit the mb 6 iron with the stock s300 shaft and loved it. One question is do i go with the 6-pw mb and 4,5 mc's? or go all mb? Mind you ball striking is not the best part of my game but im good enough to hit blades

and what is the best shaft for me? i know people have said these tend to hit the ball a little higher which is one reason i like them bc i dont hit the ball particulary high. I am just overwhelmed with all the shaft options. Do you i go with a rifle? but i made need 6.5 bc i do pull the bal as my miss and my swing speed is pretty fast. I cant find somewhere that has all the different shafts to test. Can anyone explain the basic differences with the shaft options. I hit the stock shaft fine but i feel it could be better with the properly fit shaft. The KBS tour 90s looked appealing to me do to their light weight or maybe the DG Super lights.

I appreciate anyones input on what they think is the best shaft for me and what you think about doing a combo set.

Thanks in advance. I really appreciate it

Have you ever considered doing one of the performance lab fittings? While we could all guess and try to help, odds are we wont get a perfect fit for you and it might take changing shafts a few times until you find the right ones. If you head out for a fitting, pay the $300 up front, you'll walk away with the correct shafts, lengths, lie, etc - without the guess work.

As far as combo set, I'm more and more of a fan. I use to consider myself a solid ball striker, but really, is there any reason NOT to play the MC in your 3,4,5? Not really. The MC's are a great set of sticks in their own right.

It is hard to say, but for me I ordered a 4 and 5 iron MC. I didn't get a 3 because I use a 3 hybrid....
