Interesting Cleveland Rumors

Heard these rumors from a fellow golfer on the course. So take it for what is worth...

Cleveland will launch a "tour" version of the Hi-Bore driver in a concerted effort to increase sales.

Cleveland was considering launching a new line of clubs for the high handicapper with a rebirth of the "VAS" name.

If Hi-Bore sales do not increase, then the these irons will be named "Hi-Bore" and the "Hi-Bore" woods/hybrids will move to the high handicapper line.

The new players woods will then be the "CG" woods.

Also, says they want to compete with Callaway/TM and may make a clothing acquisition (as Fidra has limited appeal) and possibly a shoe line acquisition/alliance (mentioned Hi Tec).

Like I said, take this information for what it is - a rumor. But alot of the information he passed on makes some sense. The Hi-Bore driver is geared more toward the weekend golfer as it hits a ball straight and high. If the Hi-Bore Tour succeeds in re-energizing this line, then the VAS name still has a positive perception with high handicap players and no need to develop a new name.

Will be interesting to see what happens as there has not been this much excitement about the Cleveland brand in a number of years.

Frankly, I'll be happy with the Tour driver and Exchange putters.

Cool stuff. Like you said... a lot of the rumors do make sense. A "splitting of the brand" into a few different names has worked really well for other companies... Callaway's Big Bertha line and TaylorMade's TP line come to mind.

As for clothing... I'm thinking that they will probably use the Quiksilver name here. It's a pretty big name targeting the younger generation and would match up well against some of the other "young" brands... like Puma.

We've heard that they have a glove coming... which could be a sign of a more diverse line in 2007.

the Hi-Bore iron will be out at the show.

As for the Exchange putter, they are fantastic. Hopefully, they have a hit on their hands. A little pricey, but what the hell. The LPGA sure seems to love them.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the Fidra brand if they put some money into the quality issues and market the brand. I doubt that anyone outside us golf freaks know that Fidra is owned by Cleveland, seems like they bought it and now they aren't doing anything with it.

I've already got a few of the gloves. Nothing flash but it seems pretty good

Some pictures please? That would be awsome if they had a ball. I think its cool how you could get any little golf nick nack from say callaway, from shoes to pouches to ball markers to seperate headcovers.

Quicksilver is not well known outisde of the younger generation. I can't tell you how many people had to reaseach who they are when they acquuired Cleveland. They need a brand that will appeal to the broad range of golfers that are not young. Maybe Ashworth, Fairways and Greens, etc.

Would like to see them acquire Hi-Tec shoes. This would give them a product line that works with the Quiksilver crowd and "Hi-Tec" golf shoes in conjunction with their high tech clubs.
