To me, this is the best looking iron TM has released in a long time.  I hope that finish ages well so I can pick up a set in a couple seasons 🤑

It shouldn't be PVD - i'd expect it to be some kind of copper/copper-nickel plating beneath the outer chrome plate. The transparent outer chrome plate protects the underlying nickel finish like any other chrome plated carbon steel head.

 

Below is what my 12  (+?) year old copper chrome Epons look like.

You can still see the face was matted down like those TMs above.

 

Hopefully the TMs will age just as nicely.

Would the copper finish affect the “feel” of the irons (softer etc . . ) vs the “regular” 790’s?

The copper/black and the classic TM logo only goes to show that this was the best era aesthetically for Taylor Made. That tee logo should come back for good.

I can understand why they changed the typeface in the logo - but TM should have kept or go back to that tee T design.

Did you remove the white first or just cover with black?  I want to do the same, but concerned about acetone impact on the finish. Probably not a founded concern…

I initially tried to remove the white with acetone but it didnt do anything, so I just covered it with black because I wanted to use them the next day for their first round, which is when I took those pics. I really didnt wait long enough for them to dry, which is why the paintfill looks a little rough. Im going to acetone the black off and redo them in black when I get the time to do a thorough and detailed job of it, but this is working for now. I did it more as a proof of concept with detailed work to follow 👍🏻

I love that the finish is so subtle in these pictures.  It's seems to blend a more gun metal finish with a copper finish for a great look at address.
